The #CarnegieLibraries250 gifts anchor a $20 million special initiative to celebrate the nation’s 250th anniversary by supporting America’s civic institutions and organizations that foster civic participation and bring people together.
We contacted every Carnegie Library and confirmed that about 1,280 are still operating and acknowledge their link to Andrew Carnegie — making them eligible for this #CarnegieLibraries250 gift.
Happy early birthday, America! 🇺🇸

Every Carnegie Library in America is receiving a $10,000 gift in celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. 🎉

What's next?

With enough imagination, will, and collaboration, we can build a movement to make a service year as common as going to college or entering the workforce — so that the question “Where did you serve?” becomes a unifying thread in American life.

*More to come.*
On National Service:
💬 We need a movement that takes it from nice to necessary. – Alan Khazei
💬 I don’t think there’s anything that can strengthen our democracy & foster our common purpose more. – Maj. Gen. Joseph Heck
💬 We have to fight for every inch of this to be nonpartisan. - Gov. Spencer Cox
Yesterday, we brought together leaders from across sectors to explore how we can prepare young people for successful adulthood, strengthen our communities, and create a common sense of purpose through NATIONAL SERVICE.
Participants underscored the urgency & promise. 👇
