Bringing together civil society actors across Pacific island countries to advocate for climate justice.
Raising the Morning Star in solidarity with West Papua.

Climate justice in the Pacific requires decolonisation - liberation, land rights, and self-determination. Our region cannot be free or climate-resilient while colonial violence continues.

#COP30 may not have delivered the outcomes our region needed, but it has strengthened our calls for the world to aim higher.

The PICAN network will continue to champion pathways that protect our homes, cultures, and futures.

COP30 ends with 'extremely weak' outcomes, Pacific campaigner says
The outcomes of the United Nations climate conference in Brazil means global temperature rise will not be limited to 1.5C - the threshold climate scientists say is needed to ensure a healthy planet.

And that’s a wrap from our tiny PICAN #COP30 team in Belém, Brazil 🇧🇷.

Grateful to share updates, support Pacific delegations, and connect with amazing Pacific CSOs.

Stay tuned for our End Game analysis as we assess outcomes for Pacific Climate Justice. #PICANatCOP30

"There is nothing to celebrate. That is the truth. All we have done is to defer action, given room for growth for fossil fuels, redlined justice, and harmed the integrity of science. All we did was to create processes instead of delivering outcomes."

Pacific civil society condemns COP30 outcome as a failure of courage and responsibility
Pacific civil society condemns COP30’s weak outcomes, warning that without finance and a fossil fuel phaseout, 1.5°C and frontline communities remain at grave risk.

Ah yes, the universe reminding us, yet again, that the Pacific feels the impacts first. Even at COP. Even indoors. 🙃

Heavy rain hit #COP30 & the Moana Blue Pacific Pavilion flooded, forcing cancellations and a cordoned-off space… while everyone else carried on.

At COP30 in Belém do Pará, more than 50,000 people made history with a clear, unified message:

“It is time to bury fossil fuels and build a clean, just future.”

Today, we symbolically laid fossil fuels to rest. ✊

While #COP30 continues in Belém, PICAN is also in Vanuatu meeting with our Vanuatu node, VCAN, to support their work as they roll out their 2026–2028 Strategy.

Our commitment has always been global advocacy AND strengthened regional resilience.

Day 2 at #COP30 and climate obstruction is on full display. Some countries are challenging science itself, pushing “alternative facts” to weaken ambition.

But AOSIS, LDCs and the Pacific held firm: facts are not politics — data is survival. We won’t let delay win.

Day 1 at #COP30. Ten years since Paris, and once again, it’s the Small Islands leading the charge. As the world tracks toward 2.3–2.5°C, the Pacific and SIDS stand firm: 1.5°C isn’t ambition or target. It’s survival.

Across the Global South, communities are being displaced, ecosystems destroyed, and Indigenous lands exploited — all in the name of a 'green transition.' This is climate colonialism, and it needs to end. Read more about this in our new Oxfam report: policy-practice.oxfam.org/resources/un...

🚨Another UN report, another warning.

The new UN #EmissionsGapReport shows we’re headed for up to 2.5°C of warming.

At #COP30, leaders must show courage, phase out fossil fuels, and deliver climate justice. 1.5°C is still alive — if we fight for it.

Recent analysis by @oilchange.bsky.social shows that since the Paris Agreement was adopted in 2015, just four Global North countries derailed potential for global progress in phasing out oil & gas by collectively increasing their production by nearly 40 percent between 2015 and 2024.

COP30 is our chance to close the ambition gap and keep 1.5°C alive.

The Pacific Climate Justice Demands 2025 call for:

💰 Reparative public finance

234 industry lobbyists are in Geneva for INC 5.2! And this is likely to be a highly conservative number.

What we’re seeing across the plastics, biodiversity, climate and science spaces is a widespread fossil capture of multilateralism.
August 15, 2025 at 12:35 AM
Sadly the same tactics used by blocker countries in the climate space is being employed here at #INC52.

These countries thrive in the grey area so we must continue to remind them of the mandate handed down by the UNEA 5/14 resolution!

FULL LIFECYCLE OF PLASTICS!
Today, in #PlasticsTreaty #INC52 talks, ambitious countries are experiencing déjà vu as spoiler countries keep forgetting that the 2022 UNEA 5/14 resolution mandates a treaty that addresses the FULL lifecycle of plastics. [Sadly, we used this cartoon before. Still applies.]

How can climate justice win when fossil fuel enablers hold the mic? Climate justice must not be allowed to be co-opted by the very industry behind our destruction!
