Mixing a little 6/7 with Canadiana tonight. Happy Halloween! 🎃
Something positive to focus on. Thank you @lukaszukab.bsky.social for your dedicated work to accomplish this for Albertans who value being part of Canada. 🇨🇦
456,365 #ForeverCanadian signatures (plus few dozen last minute arrivals). I’m told it’s the biggest petition in Canada’s history.

None of this would happen if not for thousands of volunteers and your love for Canada.🇨🇦

Thank you! This is Alberta’s and Canada’s victory.
This is the Alberta my fellow British Columbians warned me about when I moved to this province over 20 years ago. I’m at least grateful it took this long to manifest. I’m going to focus on the @lukaszukab.bsky.social win to help me get through staying here awhile longer.

built on theft and at massive environmental cost and most importantly, numerous studies keep demonstrating that genAI tools often work a little better than by chance. how is it that we can’t expunge these slop machines out of our institutions and communities

Interestingly enough, there is now a recount in Ward 12. CBC stating tonight that there were “sufficient rejected ballots… to affect the result of the election.”
Thank you @senatorpaulasimons.bsky.social I’ve also just started following @brodiefenlon.bsky.social and look forward to his announcement re: CBC (as an organization) joining Bluesky. 🤗💙🇨🇦
Obviously people on Bluesky have strong opinions about being on Bluesky! Come for the clip, stay for the comments.
The CBC maintains an account on X - but not on Bluesky (nor on Mastodon.) Why? I asked CE0 Marie-Philippe Bouchard and Editor-in-Chief @brodiefenlon.bsky.social when they appeared at the Senate Transport and Communications Committee this morning. #CBC #SRC #SenateofCanada #cdnpoli #X #Bluesky #TRCM
So, we watched the poll clerk fill out the form and then put in a pile with others. Neither I nor my husband were asked to sign that form - does that mean our votes are invalid?! (36 minutes in line). @jlisayoung.bsky.social
SE Calgary: approx. 40ish people ahead of us and 36 minutes. 🙂
New and old and new.
I’ve been immersed in Aran Goyoaga’s new baking book. Last week alone: over 5 hours in the kitchen building sourdough starter & testing out recipes. It’s her best book yet.
I’ve also started knitting again with this beautiful Akara Rose BFL yarn. I’ve had this skein for awhile!
Everything you make is exquisite. ✨
One reason to be glad I live in Calgary. 😂

They have time to write that up, but not update the 1985 Alberta Visual Arts curriculum… 🙄
If you haven’t signed this petition yet, please do!
Today, #ForeverCanadian brought 230,000 petition signatures to Edmonton. Our volunteers will continue collecting signatures until October 28. We need your signature to reach our 300,000 requirement to keep Alberta in Canada.

Inspired by @shinebriteroom401.bsky.social summer talk on collaborative murals at Online Art of Ed Conference & the work of master carver, Hayalthkin'geme Carey Newman, students created positive/negative hand heart collages for tomorrow’s Day of Truth and Reconciliation. #orangeshirtday #arted

Canada Post “lost” 1 billion dollars last year?

How about, “it cost Canadians 1 billion dollars to have a national postal service” which works out to costing about $25 a year per person (population of Canada in 2024 = 40 million). Seems like a pretty reasonable cost to me.
"Canada Post is on track to lose money" Hum. Duh. It cost less than a toonie to send a letter across Canada.

"Canada Post is a service and not a business" was common knowledge until late stage capitalism brain rotted most people into think if it ain't making money for shareholders, it's failing.
Thank you for this. I’m originally from Kamloops, grew up around Ponderosa pines… and you captured the essence of the BC interior perfectly. ❤️

After today, I can no longer ❤️ your slug art, as beautiful as they are. 🤩 It would be blasphemous to the bucket load of slugs who met their demise this morning. Looks like hostas are more important to me after all. 🥺🐌
Still bothering me and I must comment that I feel this is a further affront to visual art education in Alberta. Not that I showed my kids some of the images from here, but, taking the award from my own 1985 high school art teacher home and wondering where culture in AB is headed.
Thank you! I’m fairly new to dahlias and this is interesting!
