Absolutely agree. My favourite “art about grief” I’ve come across in a while. Kinda struggling w my review because I find it so moving
The Jerskin Fendrix is a late(ish, I guess) album of the year shout. I think an album about the profoundest grief, by someone who is genuinely very very funny, is exactly what the doctor ordered

Errr I am not very hot on that Geese record, y’know

Music journalism was once funded by labels advertising. In 2025, barely any record labels advertise, instead paying influencers to gab on. If you believe in cultural criticism and long-form writing, becoming a tQ subscriber is one vital way to ensure it survives:

Every time I remember it exists I must squirrel away and listen to it loudly. One of my all time favourites
The second track sounds like Swans covering Nautalus by Anna Meredith
The new one from Ciśnienie is fucking brilliant. Ground-opening-up hellfire post-rock jazz skronk cisnienie.bandcamp.com/album/angry-...

Kate Bush, Turner, The Devils
What's your favourite British things? I need a load of iconic stuff and I'm rubbish at patriotism or remembering. Stuff like the Mini or the Queen or the Beatles or Jaffa Cakes or the Hay wain or Big Ben, what are the first (good) things you think of?
Thank you! I agree. Lots of it taps into the same expansive cynical-but-emotional sort of thing

He does and I would go to war for him
I think “you get arrested and thrown in jail just for saying you’re English” would be a fine law actually
I got to talk to Maruja, Manchester’s moribund answer to Godspeed. Their debut album Pain to Power is one of the hardest hitting, most instantaneous punk albums in ages, and they are also a bunch of Jazz Fusion heads, so this was a real honour to do

You can’t get a train from Winchester or Southampton straight through to London anymore. Because of Woking.
You can't smoke weed anymore. Because of toke.
You can't read Moomin books these days. Because of Groke.
Hell yeah, I love them too!!
Getting ready for my trip to Italy by blasting Anima Latina by Lucio Battisti, and honestly. This might be the best sounding pop / rock album of all time. Genuinely sounds like it could have been made yesterday m.youtube.com/watch?v=po9_...
