The frozen yogurt of people: Fine, but no one's first choice. Film person/aspiring filmmaker. @Burtonesque89 on Letterboxd. I blather on about movies and SNL and Futurama/The Simpsons and the Tim Burton oeuvre, and there's very little else to me.

Like the holiday itself, this one's not as good or fun as my Halloween or Christmas ones, but...playlist! #SNL

I'm going out on a limb with this compilation, running afield from how NBC's done it, and NOT just including sketches that involve food, but rather the holid...

If anyone I follow - or in the circle of anyone I follow - is looking for someone to fill a proofreader/copy editor job, especially one who could work remotely/from home...I'm in pursuit of such a thing. Better still if it's a film-related outlet, as I have degrees in the field & can sort of write.

It's come to my attention that the Bowser from the Super Mario Bros. franchise is NOT also the guy from Sha Na Na.

More as this story develops/as I deal with this shock to the system.

Not every set of three is a 𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑦. You can limit your Bond intake to the first three, but that doesn't mean GOLDFINGER's the last in a 𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑦. I sure hope WAKE UP DEAD MAN isn't the third - and thus, final - of a 𝑡𝑟𝑖𝑙𝑜𝑔𝑦 (narratively, the first two Benoit Blanc yarns sure don't suggest it).

Using "The Human Torch was denied a bank loan" as a vocal warm-up/relaxer after a tongue-twister has turned from "funny quote" to "just by-the-book" for me.

Hi, (fellow-but-not-100%-fellow) Oscars prognosticators?
If you predict it months ahead of time, it's, by definition, not a "surprise" or "shocker."

Okay, see ya again next year.

Every once in a while, I'll type a "t" into my browser's address bar, for "Twitter," then catch myself and think, "No, we don't go in there anymore," like a divorced parent telling their kid not to go inside their ex's house.

This. Strikes. A. CORD.

This is the one game show I've thought about auditioning for, but ehhhh, I'd just fail and flail, they wouldn't want me to have anything to do with it...

I gotta listen to "hey, George Clooney's been good friends with Richard Kind for decades, did ya know?!" talk for 20 years, how about we put Richard Kind in the next OCEAN'S I'm supposed to be thrilled that they're making? Do THAT, if ya please!

I'm just going to leave this here and you can go down the rabbit hole (re)watching the rest of this one's visits to the desk.

@snlnyc.bsky.social @darincredible.bsky.social @trumbullcomic.bsky.social I just want to say that if someone tells you that you have to cover the upcoming CAT IN THE HAT movie on the podcast once that's out...don't believe them, you don't/won't.

Oh, this is one of my favorite lanes to stay down! I never tire of the "Gene, that IS a pretty inane thing to lead off with"/"But Roger, he IS making a great point" back-and-forth as a viewer. COP & A HALF and BENJI THE HUNTED being seminal movies for me and I've never seen either...love these two.
50 years ago this week, Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert made the first pilot for their TV show. In honor of this huge anniversary, I created my definitive “Best of Siskel & Ebert” article - 50 of their best reviews from across their entire career. 👍🏻👍🏻

There's my cue:
November 19, 2025 at 1:50 AM
-Sci-fi satires
-Repartee-forward screwballs that make me feel inadequate as a writer
-Films noir/mysteries that are sharp but more about style/atmosphere than plot particulars
-Conspiracy thrillers where NOTHING is as hero thought & the enemy has people EVERYWHERE
-Tales of quixotic/deluded artists
What are your Top 5 movie genres? Mine are:

-Star-studded murder mysteries, esp. from the 1970s.
-Two quick-witted people verbally spar w/ each other before falling in love.
-B&W film noirs where morally-compromised folks come to a bad end.
-Comedy heist films.
-Capeshit.

Sometimes I'll just fantasize about becoming friends with Sarah Sherman by bonding with her about Cronenberg movies and stuff like that.

I'm rarely able to/feel secure enough to make plans months ahead of time, but...finding out that Weird Al's tour will be coming to Orlando in May, AND on my birthday eve...

I might have to pounce on that ticket.

-Getting 𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑑𝑎 sick of Josh O'Connor...or of ℎ𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑎𝑏𝑜𝑢𝑡 Josh O'Connor...or...I'm 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑜𝑛𝑒 who didn't like CHALLENGERS. He's fine.

-Ariana Grande, good at this - weird that she's hosting a month 𝑎𝑓𝑡𝑒𝑟 WICKED: PART DEUX.

Forget all that, CHER'S RETURNING TO #SNL MUSICAL GUEST-ING AFTER 38 YEARS!

Missed #SNL last night. Catching up now, and...halfway through this cold open, I realized I MUST have missed JAJ's Tr*** in the "Domingo" opener a few weeks ago, because...man, this obligatory bullshit the show is on. This self-imposed "we open on Tr***" law"...bad law.

I should be able to put BATMAN: MASK OF THE PHANTASM here. You and your blasted bias against animation, you Academy cowards of 1994 and mostly still now!

Guillermo del Toro's FRANKENSTEIN good. Fire, of course, still bad.

It's funny to NOT have a taste for broccoli (as I don't) yet be a lifelong James Bond fan (as I am). Oh life, you and your remarkable contradictions!
November 12, 2025 at 8:52 PM
If you're NOT thinking about Christopher Walken watching this, then getting a kick out of the SNL connection THERE...you're doing it wrong? And did the late '90s wrong (whether you were around for them or not)?
November 12, 2025 at 6:57 PM
Some folks are clearly still thinking that the latest heinous scandal/would-be-a-scandal-in-the-Before-Times is going to 𝑡𝑎𝑘𝑒 𝑑𝑜𝑤𝑛 Tr***, like 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 - whatever the current 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑠 is - will be 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛𝑔. That foolish optimism is your own choice, of course, but...I feel like this vice grip never ends.
