I know the plan going forward after the hostage release is essentially what Biden was discussing with Hamas, but I was uncertain about the beginning and the initial ceasefire. I was pretty sure Hamas had been trying to hold back hostages longer.

Republicans would have undermined Biden. With Trump, nobody questioned the deal. That and he didn't have the level of Arab pressure on Hamas that came after the Israelis attacked Qatar.

Meanwhile, I hope this pontiff makes trips to give the eucharist to detainees in ICE facilities the a regular thing and a modern version of the religious pilgrimages of medieval times. This lapsed Catholic and now lazy Episcopalian would SO like to join in.
