Love this comparison. There are many reasons why the Crash remakes turned out the way that they did, but it is deeply frustrating that the conversation around these games in particular treats them as true upgrades over the originals when that simply could not be further from the truth.
I'm afraid the original is artistically better in every way
That’s a good question. Was Smash Bros Ultimate the first time they saw Sora.

If so, I’m ready to go lie in a museum or something.
Do many current kids/teens even play Kingdom Hearts?

Xbox still undefeated in the Giving Things The Worst Names Imaginable game.
You’re calling it “ASUS ROG Xbox Ally X” like I’m supposed to know how to pronounce any of that.
What will happen first? Bloodborne remaster or Pokémon having voice acting.

Only time will tell!

Showtime! 2006 was Castlevania's 20th Anniversary, so let's see how Konami celebrated with their second entry for the Nintendo DS. Let's look back on Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin!

Suddenly, your nerves set in. Are kids gonna recognize Pokémon when they walk down crowded toy aisles? Will the new colors catch their eye as quickly as red, blue and yellow?

And NoA found, in their research, that...it didn't. They'd been "trained" too well to do otherwise.

But here was Gold and Silver and the 100 new monsters that they were set to introduce and popularize. And while the name "Pokémon" was still there and in plain sight, they had to contend with a new color scheme. Which means altering everything about how you once presented your brand.

Now, you can certainly wish that they took more creative risks. I know I have! But Pokémon and its associated companies don't necessarily view big swings like we do. They view it as dominos that might fall - you change one thing too much and you watch them pile over across the franchise.

So whenever something big changes in Pokémon, it means reformatting part of a gigantic brand. And you can see how it would create hesitancy - if something seems to be going and selling well, why change it? Why do anything that might upset the ship?

Whenever I see people talk about why the Pokémon franchise is or isn't evolving, I'm reminded of an interview I did with a former Nintendo of America employee. We were discussing the move to promote Gen 2, Gold/Silver, and all the merchandise that would be involved in that.

It was revealing.
