Trump could win because he gave supporters plausible deniability (to themselves, if not to outsiders). He's putting on a show, messing with the media, trolling the left, that's just the way he talks, seriously but not literally, etc.

A CBS News source tells me this tonight about 60 Minutes abruptly yanking the CECOT story:
"It’s definitely fishy. I don’t think this happens very often. I’m theorizing that perhaps Bari wanted it held, but I don’t know that for certain."
