Literally had tire pop and had to carry my bike almost two miles where my partner was in waiting for me. I no longer forget my patch kits. Which is still easier and safer than dealing with a car.

Except when an e-bike loses power, it can keep going and not murder or significantly injure anyone since it isn’t tons of metal that NEEDS an engine to keep going. (This is from experience of city e-bikes dying on me mid-ride).

Thinking about how the housing crisis is also pushed on to the people through ADUs & in-law apartments instead of governments doing their job & getting dense housing built. Also the fact that some households need that income to keep their homes. Diabolical.

Both of my grandmas lost their licenses in their late eighties and then had to rely on other people to get them around for anything since where they live/lived is not walkable to anything for someone in their 80s.

It had never occurred to me that a full two percent of the US population was over 75 and self-reporting as periodically struggling with driving, e.g. after dark. The idea of that many people potentially losing their independence half the time is staggering.

Nothing moves large numbers of people across a major city quite as well as public transit.

But cycling can provide some relief when transit is down. It can fill in many of the gaps.
