Former journalist, mostly on Gulf Coast w/stint on fog-shrouded Island off coast of NJ. Swamped by an ocean of mediocrity. Advocate for EVs in the heart of the oil and gas industry. Also, fountain pens.

It's our duty to call Trump a fascist.
Successfully performed nibectomy on my Conklin crescent filler fountain pen. The original fine nib was hard to start, dry, and skipped. Though I've replaced nibs before, this was a first for a pen with an ink sac and I was nervous. It went exceedingly well, swapping in a medium nib. Quite happy.

New fountain pen. Stumbled across Nolapens.com at the City Park market this weekend. Snagged a nice pen made with recovered wood from streetcar seats. Very nice. He also has pens made from a downed oak tree from Audubon Park.

Most days there's a taqueria truck in this location just outside the Lowe's on Jefferson highway in New Orleans. I haven't seen him all week. Nor have I seen the dozens of customers or the day laborers around the entrances. I did see a car with "I am Charlie Kirk" on the window.

The only violent criminals I see are outfitted in camo and wearing masks.
......
“Americans should be able to live without fear of violent criminal illegal aliens harming them, their families or their neighbors,” DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin said.

My son works at one of the best restaurants in #NOLA, which means the US. He told me they have Thanksgiving specials and asked me if I needed a care package. I'd be a fool to say no to food from there.
He didn't specify where the care package was coming from.
Dinner will be ready in 6 minutes.

As you watch your neighbors burn down their house this Thanksgiving, raise a glass to Dale Curry of the Times-Picayune for starting this craze.
Did a 1984 Times-Picayune article kick off deep-fried turkey craze?

Color me cranky (so what’s new about that?)
Used a free @chargepointnet.bsky.social charger in NOLA today. After I walked off, AmEx sent a note that ChargePoint hit the card for $50. Then again a minute later. “Contact Us” because it wants me to upload files from my phone.

I stopped by the Lowe's in Metairie today while running errands. Normally at that time of day there would be a couple dozen folks offering to help old geezers like me. Today there were just two, along with a sleeping security guard.

Every clock in my house is wrong again. My daughter, my favorite horologist, says that if I'm very (very) patient, all will be correct again.

(My VCR is flashing 12:00, but that's nothing new.)

I didn't hear a peep out of my senators #JohnNeelyKennedy and #DrBillCassidy about this travesty. Do they have manservants to shave them so they don't have to look in the mirror?

I was in Biloxi and stopped for a protein shake. They brought me a bushwhacker. I thought that sort of mix up was just a New Orleans thing.
FWIW, I did not send it back.

On Oct 18, “No Kings” rallies return nationwide — 10 cities in Louisiana too. Johnson & Scalise call them “hate America rallies,” but standing together to say no one man should rule a free people is the definition of loving your country. That’s America at its best. #NoKings

Remember, Columbus Day was created as a direct result of the upright citizens in New Orleans lynching 11 Italian-Americans exonerated in the killing of the city's police chief. The killings were lauded by many US leaders and prompted major fallout with Italy.
