Politics, yes. But also film, theatre, music etc.

'Every night she'd come to me
I'd cook for her, I'd pour her tea
She was in her thirties then
had made some money, lived with men
We'd lay us down to give and get
beneath the white mosquito net
And since no counting had begun
we lived a thousand years in one'

Mike Hodges’ last film.

Worth seeing for its sense of people and places, especially round SW9 where I used to live.

Or for a more eloquent description:

"Does the film work? All I know is that it stays in my mind for its ambitiously autumnal essence.’ (Andrew Sarris)

Enjoyed Blunt: The Fourth Man.

Ian Richardson: Blunt
Anthony Hopkins: Burgess

Back in the old days when treacherous English ‘gentlemen‘ were selling out the country to the Russians. 🙂

I don't like these AI summaries that come up on google. Interestingly when I was searching for something very specific and a bit obscure yesterday the AI summary just invented a load of bullshit rather than say 'I don't know'.

Dreamed of cavernous Hungarian flats and Julia Louis-Dreyfus in funeral attire.

What does it all mean? No idea, but I’ve had worse.

'I shouldn't look back
But I do just the same
And I've only myself to blame
I knew it was love
But when you are young
You think love will come again and again
There's no greater fool
In the fool's hall of fame
And I've only myself to blame'

Lyrics, Don Black.

Viewer comments on #pluribus suggest the alien invasion has happened in the real world and not just in an Apple ‘original’ tv series.

This website has been my ‘trusted film review’ site for some years.

I find it a lot more reliable than some of the well known film reviewers in the UK.

One of the best - certainly one of the wisest - UK comics.

Let Me Down Easy is song title used by various artists. Different songs. Different artists.

This one was written by Cy Coleman, (who wrote The Best is Yet To Come) with lyrics by Carolyn Leigh.

It was written for a musical version of a Neil Simon play, The Heartbreak Kid, which was never made.

Bare feet are better than holes in your shoes
Boy, you sure give me the blues

There you are with your hand out, out for more

The son of one of my mother’s friends called her to put his dying mother on the phone. My mother is at an age where everyone of her generation has died. This lady was the last of her school friends.
Death all around. In the end you’re probably happy to die, just to get away from all the dying.
