Girl Dad, Democrat, music fan, book reader, happy husband, dog and cat owner, Maryland resident. Also produces electronic music under the name ANHNCH.
I used to post this on Facebook. But since I ditched Zuck, here is is on Substack. All the best metal, indie and electronic music that have come out in 2025. My gift to you. You won't find a better list anywhere, I guarantee it! And no AI was used in the creation of this list either!
Entirely Subjective List of the Best Music of 2025
Is there any other kind of list?

Most of this is probably well-known but always worth sharing our rights:
Heckling? Filming? What are your rights when protesting ICE?
Many of Montgomery County's immigrants live in fear of ICE. Many county residents want to support them, but may not know their own legal rights when they protest or videotape arrests.

I'll concede that Netflix has a pretty impressive collection of non-US shows and series that have allowed me to see some very impressive shows I'd never have come across otherwise, but this is still gross and totally unnecessary and it's not good for art, cinema, or culture. #TaxTheBillionaires

Watching The American Revolution on @pbs.org. Really impressive, well-done & fascinating. Two quick observations:

1. The parallels to 2025 are, of course, chilling.
2. Pretty much every quote from one of Abigail Adams letters is amazing. She was bad-ass! I need to learn more about her!

Today is the last Bandcamp Friday of 2025, a very good day to support independent artists/labels. I'll put a link to my own music, and while I'd be flattered if anyone buys my stuff, this is just a hobby for me, while for many artists/labels it's how they support themselves. But just buy something!

Just broke up with Spotify, although did see my own before I deleted (and my own project ANHNCH was my top streamed artist ha ha). Definitely plead guilty to buying into hype in years past. Glad we have voices like Liz Pelly to tell us full story of how bad these companies are! Bye Spotify!

1. Open AI is such a gross company.
2. They're lying through their teeth.
3. I hope they lose this case.
4. The sooner this company ends up on the ash heap of history the better off the world will be!

SO proud to live in a county where we just elected an immigrant the president of the County Council. THIS is what America looks like, and should represent, not ICE Nazi fascists.

Keep coming back to his "I don't know what I had an MRI for but it was perfect" comment. My Dad has dementia, and this is EXACTLY what he said to one of my siblings after I took him for one (well minus the 'perfect bit'). He didn't know because he's no longer there. #25thAmendment

#StrangerThings Season 5 first batch - terrible. So sad was SUCH a great show at first and now it's just another silly Hollywood franchise with absurd plot twists. I'm not sure I'll even bother with last few Wikipedia can sum it up for me when it's over.

AI is a disease that no one wants!
"They're trying to change our habits, because all of the projections rely on people becoming truly dependent on the technology. Whether or not it's actually a good thing for society isn't considered to be a factor."
Analysis: OpenAI is a loss-making machine, how can it survive?
Don't call it a bubble! Loss-making monster OpenAI is on the hook for $1.4 trillion (with a T) in compute commitments. How can this go on?

Just finished the new Pynchon. Definitely confusing as his stuff frequently is, not as enjoyable as some of the earlier ones. This article in @yalereview.bsky.social helped to clarify some of what I think I missed. If you're a Pynchon fan it's of course essential if not hard to recommend!

Hard to even imagine HOW bad those #epsteinfiles must be if these lunatics are going to try to start an illegal war with a country that is absolutely no threat to the US to try to change the topic!

It's always fascinating to listen to racists insist that "all (fill in ethnic/racial/sexual group here) members of X group are guilty by association" when a crime is committed but as a white man, I never hear the same thing when yet another member of my gender commits mass shooting. Wonder why?

Goodbye Spotify. Hello Tidal! They're probably bad too but the sound is better, they bad artists marginally more, and as far as I can tell they don't let ICE advertise and their CEO isn't investing in AI weapons tech.

False Flag - A false flag operation is an act committed with the intent of disguising the actual source of responsibility and pinning blame on another party. The term "false flag" originated in the 16th century as an expression meaning an intentional misrepresentation of someone's allegiance.

Very disappointing that this article in @thebaltimorebanner.com offers no dissenting voices on this idea. Zero chance that there's no faculty or staff at @morganstateu.bsky.social that think this is a terrible idea. Article should've offered their voices. AI is a scam...

Just finished the new Wally Lamb. Pretty damn brutal. I will say I didn't love it as much as some of his others I found the main character to be kind of annoying, but the writing is of course tremendous, and the scenes/writing at the beginning and at the end of the book are incredibly powerful!

I've been on an extended deep dive in @bandcamp.com the past few months and @bricolageg5.bsky.social is one of the labels that I've been amazed by. 10 years of goodies I've missed! This new one is phenomenal! Never heard of Veelargo before (shame on me) but clearly even MORE deep diving needed!
Today we mark our final release of 2025 with the new album from Veelargo.

“Drealusions” has his trademark organic sounds laced with ambient, acid, breaks and electro. A phenomenal way for us to see out the year.
