Do you think scientists just picked one particular snake and called it a legless lizard just to mess with us? 😄
Photo of a legless lizard which looks a lot like a green snake.
I'm not the biggest #Rush fan but as they announced their return, I immediately thought of their simple but powerfully empathetic lyrics in "Subdivisions" and the terribly-enduring idea of "conform/be cool or be cast out."
It's an important idea that all young people should hear. So satisfying to see it weaved into a tale of adventure.
If you live in a village of 10 people, and one of them lies about you being a witch, and the other 8 people believe the lie, it doesn't matter that you have the truth on your side. You're fucking dead.

We have to fight mass hypnosis.
Your worth is inherent.

Don't let ANYBODY tell you different.
Rejection letters are SO hard. It's a challenge not to take them personally.

It does make me feel better to read this one for U2. 😄

Everything is bad but you don't need to add sleep deprivation to that list. You can doomscroll more tomorrow.
Some of y'all weren't picked last in gym class and it shows.

It gets very tiring to repeatedly learn about geniuses (John Lennon probably the most famous example, but there are so many others) who treated their wives and children like shit.

A spiral galaxy, observed with the Hubble Space Telescope in the GEMS survey.

It is at redshift 0.37 (lookback time 4.17 billion years) with coordinates (53.30809, -27.84828).

142 volunteers classified this galaxy in Galaxy Zoo: Hubble.

After many days sitting on a rock, staring at a cloudy sky, I was finally lucky & beyond excited to see comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS, the brightest #comet in 13 years!

October 2024: Comet C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is passing our earth over a cloud band, visible a bit over the horizon in the middle of the picture. Some soft clouds can be seen over it, behind them the sky has a beautiful dark blue, with a lot of stars are around it. Photo was taken from a field way, that’s making a wide left turn towards the horizon and some dark green growing winter crops are growing mainly on the field on the left side of the path. For some seconds the green of the crops got beautifully illuminated in yellow and golden colors by the light of a leaving car, that was parked behind me at the entrance of the way, creating some extra magic to this gorgeous event.
I was finally and fortunately able to see the comet, after I spent days sitting on a rock in the cold, waiting for it, and hoping for at least a glimpse of the comet between the mostly clouded sky. It was the only day it was visible for me, the next days were completely cloudy again. I was beyond happy!

Given its extremely long orbit, this ancient celestial traveler was first thought of that it likely originated in the Oort Cloud, a large spherical shell of icy debris at the outer reaches of our solar system but as of October 14, 2024, the comet’s path may take it out of the solar system altogether.
It made its closest transit past the Sun on September 27 and was expected to come within approximately 70 million kilometers (44 million miles) of Earth on October 12.
The comet is consisting out of dust, ice, and rock. When a comet approaches the Sun, it gets warmer. Heat causes its ice to sublimate into gas, and these gases and dust become a glowing coma and tail that can extend millions of miles.
It became the brightest comet in 13 years & was visible to the naked eye in mid-October 2024.
A once-peaceful planet is on the brink of war. A young prince is framed and sentenced to death. There is one hope: the magical Coat of Arms.

But the coat only fits one person—a shy, plus-sized 13-year-old girl named Lora Blu.

What if fitted sheets were never meant to be folded, and normal people were only meant to own one sheet set, to be washed and put back on the bed on the same day? And that having more than one was considered material excess?
Awesome excerpt time:

"Amar?" Nora looked up at him from her blanket. "I know I'm good at this, but...I'm scared."

He found her hand. "I'm scared too - that never changes - but we'll be all right. Just remember: We're going to do this together."

Stinging but funny moment in #Disclaimer when an elderly character enlists a Gen Z man to create a fake Instagram acct of a 19-year-old boy. Gen Z man suggests adding interests like favorite TV shows, sites, etc.

Old man asks what favorite books he should add.

Gen Z looks at him blankly. "Books?"
Still surprised that the #Rustin movie only got a polite nod from the public. Such a powerful story.
