Vaccines are one of the great gifts of modernity, and this one prevents cancer!
Australia just recorded zero cervical cancer cases in women under 25 for the first time since records began in 1982. The amazing result of HPV vaccination.

This was a great discussion of a major development in Canadian climate politics, highly recommended.

This is a fascinating conversation about Thursday's pipeline MOU in which I play a supporting role to @maxfawcett.bsky.social.

Is there any good rough estimate about what % of the computer is for LLMs services (and market for those) versus multifarious ML? I presume it’s largely predicated on businesses paying for LLMs, but maybe not?

The Carney/Smith #MOU is a climate dumpster fire. We knew it was coming, but boy howdy, it really sucks. THREAD

This is not a good take. Carney's move signals to the rest of Canada, and the world, that it's OK to keep building more fossil fuel projects.
Other countries will use this to justify doing the same.

Our children are watching, to see if we care about their futures. Do we?

Cool chart and great thread.

Interesting to know that Tesla remains competitive & highly locally integrated in China. Perhaps good for tech transfer from China back to North America?

"Tesla Shanghai Gigafactory has a 95% local supply chain

Tao Lin (Grace Tao), Global Vice President of Tesla, announced on Weibo that the Model 3 and updated Model Y produced at Tesla’s Shanghai Gigafactory now have a localization rate exceeding 95%.

In other words, more than 95%"

I just want to point out that there is a lane for someone to start a small media company whose express mission statement is "nothing we put on the internet was made by AI" & every time a category gets overrun like this, they branch out
NEW: AI “recipe slop” is overrunning search and social. Food creators say Google’s AI Overviews and glossy fake food pics are drowning out real, tested recipes — collapsing traffic and setting home cooks up for disaster, especially this Thanksgiving.

So - it's becoming clear that the endgame for our zoning advocacy should be a "kit of parts" for both buildings + zoning rules. A toolbox that works on all lot sizes (including small lots).

It will be 2 pieces:
1. Town centres (attached here, w no side yard)
2. Distributed (w side yards)

Where I work, grad student enrollment in Engineering and Business is down 70% and 40%, respectively.

Now, to cover the loss in revenue from these Departments, the rest of the colleges have to take MASSIVE hits. History Dept alone has cut/closed 6 TT lines. Forget about raises or salary equity. 🫠
Enrollment by international students from China dropped by 3 percent, from India by 4 percent, and enrollment from students from Mexico has flatlined. Here are the likely consequences for Texas' education and economy:

Petrostates, fossil fuel companies, and their lackeys can sabotage diplomacy, but it's becoming increasingly transparent what they do is simply evil, while we will ditch fossil fuels anyway.
