Today in unholy hardware I did not know existed.
That’s a PCIE SATA backplane and two 2.5 drive mounts, including the SATA controller and power delivery lmao, in a single PCI slot. Say what you will, but this is very space efficient!

Dude I think it definitely was my HBA overheating and shutting off and the resulting PCIE disconnection causes a kernel panic which hangs or reboots the whole system.
I’ve been running that HBA fanlessly for years but I just now considered its heatsink is probably designed for server airflow lmao…
