If you're going to the bigger base you could just glue the current base to it and then use putty to form a small hill around it to hide the first base.

You can see it with some of the benches in the teaser images for the upcoming game. I doubt it's intentional. Some artist probably just referenced pictures of benches without even realizing what they were modeling.

That's because these people have zero media literacy and can't see past base level aesthetics. There's an unsettling amount of people who actually think that the Imperium is the good faction. People on sites like imgur and reddit will get very upsetti spaghetti if you imply that it's just fascism.

Not normally. Maybe on a very bright white map it might? That said, black is fairly neutral and works with most terrain nicely.

I would vote for option 3 and say paint them black. Otherwise I would choose whichever of the two colors would provide the greatest contrast against the finished model.
