The circulating text chain is not shocking any more than the prominently displayed noose at J6 insurrection was. None of it is shocking. Racist, antithetical to the precepts of democracy, and xenophobic, and worse, absolutely…but not shocking. Anyone shocked isn’t paying attention.

Go to Outkast the night before two big finals instead of sticking to my self-regimented study schedule. (I’d been studying religiously anyway prior to that point.) I rarely nerded out throughout school, but that was the one time I really regretted it.

I’ll re-frame…I have one big regret in college. I had two invites to 2 sororities and on the final day of rush, there was a candle-lit ceremony and a poor pledge fainted and NO ONE MOVED TO HELP HER FOR 2 SOLID MINUTES. I regret not lurching forward to help her. (Spoiler: I did not join the Greeks.)

Thank you for the heads up! Last I heard about her post-Tom Lake novel was that she wrote a good chunk of it and threw it out and started over because the plot was too boring, ha. Will look forward to this one. I’m still hammering away at the Bel Canto annotated edition.

My dad missed his calling as a coach. He went corporate route and I think will ultimately look back ruefully. He never hounded any of us in the bball, soccer, football, etc that my sibs and/or I played. Wanted us to love every second. He gave us driving range tips, but never hounded.
