It should be obvious to those without malintent, but views here represent my own as a unique human and not those of my employers.

Is the dude lobbying to get into heaven in the same way he's lobbying for a Nobel Peace Prize?

It is all of this using the same strategy that I used to guilt my parents into buying me Fruit by the Foot as a kid?

Also, it didn't work.
washingtonpost.com
President Trump has taken to justifying his policy agenda by invoking his hope of reaching heaven after he dies. But “I don’t think there’s anything [that's] going to get me in heaven,” Trump told reporters en route to Israel on Air Force One. https://wapo.st/4q9yS1E

We've got way too many people confusing "AI usage" with "AI fluency" out there, y'all.

I love that folks think these videos will be respected. It's 80s Communism level of propaganda, and ... well y'all, that didn't work out so well either.
bowmanspartan.bsky.social
Truth. Also, I'm going to sadly proffer that we've had a "society organized primary around lying" for ... well, a very long time. =/

Of course, today it's a matter of volume (amount and noise) that ever-saturates our attention, which continues to feed the meter.

VGHF recently archived a LucasArts press CD-ROM from 1996 as part of the GamePro archives, including a full history of the company to date: https://archive.gamehistory.org/item/fc835949-e496-47ff-9800-e8f5428e01e2 (The LucasArts .com website got '5,000 visits a day' back in 1996!)

What gets lost in so many AI panics is the real danger: slop. Another great example and for sure, "hype-to-reality" is the key here, y'all. We're not replacing us with things that are better than us. That's the rub.
detenber.bsky.social
the hype-to-reality ratio is wildly off, and there is likely going to be a big correction soon, if not a complete bubble burst.
maxkennerly.bsky.social
IMHO, LLMs will be an economic negative for years.

They'll do a worse job than humans,

but will still replace humans because they're cheaper for employers,

but really they're costlier, it's just that lots of costs get externalized to society by our horrible energy/tax policies.

Lose-lose-lose.

This is a true story. Schrodinger's peer review.
Image of Schrodinger's cat. One cat says, "Your effect sizes are too small to be meaningful." The other cat says, "Your study likely suffers from Type II errors and wasn't powered enough to detect small effects."

For my @icagames.bsky.social and other #Games folks, I've got a lead on fantastic tenure-track position in Guadalajara, if you'd be interested? Spanish language is *not* a requirement, although I promise you, you'll learn as you go. Reach out if interested? It's a lovely city, Uni, and culture. =)

I will not back down.

Trump is now calling for the arrest of elected representatives checking his power.

What else is left on the path to full-blown authoritarianism?
Donald Trump Truth Social Post: Chicago Mayor should be in jail for failing to protect Ice Officers! Governor Pritzker also.

But of course, when those same officers shoot at civilians, it's all good apparently.
washingtonpost.com
President Trump has called for the jailing of Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson and Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker, both Democrats, for “failing to protect” ICE officers who have been sent to the city.
Trump says Chicago mayor, Illinois governor should be jailed for response to ICE
Trump, without providing evidence, said Brandon Johnson and JB Pritzker should go to jail for “failing to protect” immigration agents.

The Vice President of the United States used his social media page to tell Joy Reid, a private citizen with no connection to the government, that she should express "gratitude" for how this country has treated her.

Black women remain the most consistent targets in all of this.

This morning, the Trump Administration’s Department of War gave me an ultimatum: call up your troops, or we will. It is absolutely outrageous and un-American to demand a Governor send military troops within our own borders and against our will.
bowmanspartan.bsky.social
The worst part about this? By no means is any of this an "extraordinary relationship" with the US government. They're describing the relationship du jour that most free and democratic nations have with their Unis.
brendannyhan.bsky.social
And it's not a one-time capitulation. If DOJ ever says you violated the vague and unconstitutional terms, they will take back ALL federal funds from that year and you have to return ALL private funding from donors who want their gifts back from that year. It's a never-ending protection racket.
robertscotthorton.bsky.social
The Act of Capitulation that Trump is demanding that all colleges and universities are to sign surrenders authority over vast areas to Trump, as the Dear Leader. www.washingtonexaminer.com/wp-content/u...
bowmanspartan.bsky.social
Why is this important? We live in an increasingly hybrid society for which we traverse the physical and the digital nearly seamlessly. This work helps further cement the idea that those digital experiences aren't somehow "less real" or fake." Give it a peek?
bowmanspartan.bsky.social
There is a lot more work to be done, but the takeaway is quite clear: people can feel a sense of place for physical and digital worlds, and this sense of place can have both positive and negative valence to it.
