UKHE & data for work, unraveling terrible politics, takes and politicians for fun.

Currently living the consequences of the intersection of fun and work. Not a fan tbh
I was NOT at all emotionally prepared to start playing Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

Finished half the prologue and feel I'm having a breakdown

Tonight I will be reliving my student days. West end, Ashton lane and plenty of alcohol

With all that is going on, I really don't want to alarm people too much but if you are a #PowerBi user better get prepared for the next "Millennium Bug"

You only have 2,912,714 days left!

I knew I recognised that guy from somewhere

Thank God for local news coverage

Yes, but only because the full costs of delivery are not passed on

I agree fully this is a great deal for the students, great for the country

Terrible for the institutions that take loads of these loss making places then end up having to cut viable ones such as humanities

Very familiar attitude, even in the good times. No doubt there will come a call for solidarity at some point, and then a complaint that there is none

In Edinburgh. Hate Edinburgh, lost in Edinburgh.l

Had to ask an American tourist where they got the Starbucks they had, and if they could give me directions so could charge my phone

"Ha ha, a Scotsman lost in Edin-burg"

Don't care to correct him, stupid city doesn't deserve proper pronunciation

#powerbi question

Can powerbi workspaces be held on a private cloud, or is it always public?

Maybe this is just who they were all along, and they quietly resented having to make room for anyone else. Am feeling grief for a world that maybe never existed, yet also a sense of clarity. These are not my people and they never were.
Currently seeing several acquaintances either reveal or develop racist prejudices or worldviews. What an alienating time.

“The executives want a report on why so many customers churned last quarter but I told them they need to wait for me to build an interoperable data lake using an open table format like Netflix did (we’re a 50 person startup).”

As a Comp Sci grad, I understand the millennium bug

As a lazy programmer, and ersatz data engineer, I understand why I shouldn't recreate it

But I do, regularly

It's '25, I'm sure someone will figure out something better in the next 75 years

(Also, I replace NULL with a really big number a lot)

Oh, I am now a published author

Saying that, I built the under pinning model and supported the actual author so don't see myself as a "real" author

But I thoroughly enjoy blurring the line between academic and professional services, so will take the credit when offered

Coming up on 15 years working in #UKHE and I have quoted from Tinto 1973 every year

Now, as I re-draft my MBA project submission for the 100th time I am really seeing what was meant by "goal commitment" from a whole new angle
