it seems to have come from github.com/ZDoom/gzdoom... that over there. "graf zahl" is "coelckers" there. seemingly he was uninvolved for most of a year and then abruptly reappeared and added chat gpt code in violation of the General Public License and hadn't even bothered to test if it worked.

it's even stranger when i consider that in many cases i am literally the earliest registered person on that forum still using it and they will talk to me like i'm some vagrant they never saw before rummaging through their dumpster, like sweeney todd telling his wife to get lost

another time i was snipped at and told to use a different game engine when i asked about the possibility of playing a video. grapes just say why you can't do it, don't call me an idiot repeatedly for not knowing. then years after they added video support anyway. forum.zdoom.org/viewtopic.ph...

in particular they got angry when i asked about a quirk in a feature called "flatsprite" and was told "use flat 3d models instead" but no one would explain how to implement a flat 3d models, so i just stuck with the flat-sprites that at least i already have working, if awkwardly.

and so i avoid them if i can. I am "glad" to know if there are or were people involved who don't actually endorse that way of doing things. but now i need to figure out what version i should or even can switch to. I still don't know who might actually be able to use this in the end, if it ends

oh gorf i have no idea what is going on with the very software i am depending on to run the nonsense i am slowly assembling. but that IS in large part because there is often an air of jerkiness about the "community" and its likelihood to get annoyed at you for asking a question rather than answering

but then with that turned off, the program gets slower and slower the more zoomed IN i have it. so i guess now i need to have it off for sketching and testing but on while adding details. unless i turn THIS off, and i don't know when that was added or how much worse this will make anything else

It was introduced in 2018, but since i have used aseprite since 2017, MAYBE I somehow avoided activating that feature until 2024 and this isn't entirely the fault of me using a decrepit operating system and not installing replacement thermal pads correctly in May and never wanting to do that again.

I just realizemembered that i made a 49 frame piece at 2550x2550 in 2023 without substantial issue, and so fiddled in the preferences and discovered that disabling "new render engine," which interpolates pixels when zoomed out, speeds things up considerably.
