He was born in a small village just outside Grimsdale. Christened plain Edward by his parents, Billy and Mary.
He was a boring child.

As he grew up, Edward stayed just as dull. He liked nothing better than to settle down in front of the TV and watch repeats of the weather forecast.

His biggest claim to fame was when he had the 4th largest collection of tadpoles in the street.

Then one day as he was counting blades of grass, Edward fell into a bowl of Ready Brek that someone had left in his path. (Probably his brother Stevie and his sister Jenny).
[Eddie emerges from that bowl glowing with energy]
He gobbled it up and that was it. No more boring Edward. Other children started wanting him to play with them.
And he was getting noticed at school too after scoring eight goals for the football team. Which was pretty good, since everyone agreed he was the best goalkeeper ever.

With all this energy, Eddie (as his girlfriend Jane now called him), was game for anything.
He even formed a band with three of his mates from the parachute club.

And that's how he earned his nickname.
