Even if you’re stuffing your manuscript with common genre tropes, inject something unique! This post brought to you by Kotn’s ‘soft sweaters’ ad featuring tough guy actor Danny Trejo, which really stands out from all those other sweater ads, due to that unexpected element! #editor #writingtips

Wow, Guillermo del Toro's Frankenstein might be the perfect movie. Exquisite and heartbreaking. The director's passionate love of film--and the source material-- shines through in every single frame. 💔

On a day when the sitting pres of the US called a reporter Piggy, I’m thinking about the conversation between Kamala Harris and Sophia Bush I was privileged to witness on Sunday in Toronto. #liftpeopleup #holdontohope #theworldisagroupproject #character #integrity

Been working at an insane pace all year, with tons of editing work (thank u, clients!) and writing a beast of a novel. I've a few more editing projects scheduled before year end, and a new book of my own to start, but I'm taking this aft off to bake and listen to West End Girl AGAIN! #freelancelife

Tuesday tip: seems obvious, but keep track of things as you write. Make lists of character and place names, how time is moving, etc! #freelanceeditor #writingtips #writingcommunity

'It's so very exciting for me, at the age of 72, to say I feel I've grown creatively in the last few years. With regard to writing, you have been responsible for that. Thanks so much for everything, Bev. What shines through, besides all your incredible advice, is your honest enjoyment of the work.' ❤️

Nice to see the rejection of MAGA politics all over the U.S. yesterday! Time to get rid of provincial Conservatives in Canada—and let’s not go backwards and vote Conservative in the next federal election!

Tuesday tip: if you’re planning to fast-draft a manuscript this month, be sure to do up an outline first, even if you’re normally a pantser—it’s easier to write quickly when you know exactly where you’re going! Need help outlining? Look up the Snowflake Method! #writingtips #editor #writingcommunity

Sometimes my editing clients resist making big changes. I do, too. Initially. But as a friend recently reminded me, revision is re-vision. You have to be willing to tear up portions of your book and start over to make it the very best it can be… #writingtips #publishingtips #writingcommunity

I have roots in Manchester. My grandmother was born there. Today's deadly attack at a synagogue, on Yom Kippur, was appalling. The rise of anti-Semitism, worldwide, is appalling. Anger at the Israeli government's policies--and I myself am angry--must not be taken out on Jews anywhere. What a world.💔

Authors beware: fake book clubs are reaching out to writers, asking to feature your books. The emails reveal knowledge about your book, probably gleaned from the blurb. After asking if they can secure a date, they ask for an 'administrative' fee. Has happened to me and many author friends! #newscam
