If anyone needs me I will be in the museum, lying down next to the bog bodies.
Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing?
2? Questions
I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up.
Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Pot handlers people! They are POT HANDLERS. Made by grandma. Who is wondering why they made her leave the craft show...

Surely half the benefit of having flashcards is creating them in the first place.

I'd like you to all congratulate me for going to the print fair at Nottingham Contemporary and not buying more art. Even though we both looked at a stand by an artist we already have two pieces from and pointed to the same one with a declaration of love.

Edwina Currie is on the local politics programme. She's doing respectful disagreement with the Labour MP but does not have a lot of time for the local councillor sat next to her who recently defected to Reform and it's a bit delicious.

NEW POST

This is pretty niche but I enjoyed writing it :) It’s on three things I’m really interested in:

1. Attention
2. Pre-Reformation graffiti
3. How the annoying it is that the working class continue to be patronised

Marvellous Minoan clay vessels made by creative potters on the island of Crete during the Aegean Bronze Age around 3,500 years ago! 🤩

Heraklion Archaeological Museum 📷 by me

#Archaeology
From the Aegean Bronze Age, Minoan clay vessels with black handpainted decoration.on a pale biscuity-coloured slip

Top left - clay flask decorated in Minoan ‘Marine Style’’ with an octopus with tentacles writhing around the body of the vase. Additional motifs such as seaweed and rocks represent the seabed. From Palaikastro, 1500-1450 BC

Top right - clay rhyton in the shape of a bull’s head. A rhyton is a type of pouring vessel used for filling cups or making liquid offerings. There is a pouring hole at the bull’s mouth. From Knossos Little Palace, 1450-1375 BC

Bottom left - Nautilus vessel - clay rhyton depicting the seabed with nautili, corals and seaweed. From Phaistos Palace, 1500-1450 BC

Bottom right - Basket shaped rhyton decorated with double-axe motif. There is a small pouring hole in one of the bottom corners. From Pseira, 1500-1450 BC

One of the teachers I worked with years ago was caught on camera at Wimbledon whilst 'off sick'. Was taken the mock out of. Announcing it on a TV show is bit worse.

Excellent as always from Claire. This time, amongst other amazing things, nailing it on how art can patronise when it makes assumptions 👌

Today has been about Howard and Dad investigating my parents' wonky paving and relaying the wonky paving without its wonk. Me and Mum have done watching and being on call.

41. Second appearance for Giacometti here, this time a more recent Tate Modern exhibition. This book covers a lot, including a wonderful A-Z. I love the way his sculpture changes as you move around the space. And the cat. I will always love the cat. #52ArtBooks25
Front cover of book. Giacometti. Full-cover image of Giacometti sitting down, surrounded by his sculptures of tall, thin people. Page of book. Two viewpoints of 'Thin bust on a base (known as' Amenophis') 1954. Plaster. Man pointing. Bronze sculpture. 1947 Spoon Woman 1927. In Giacometti's studio.

Nice little discussion around Vermeer. I'm thinking about authorship from the pov of audience a lot at the moment and I quite like the ideas around viewer as co-conspirator/ partner in creation and then the links to emergence of photography. More to untangle.

Big news. The small children at school were rehearsing a NATIVITY today. One of the bigger small boys is Mary (complete with heavily-pregnant-bad-back). Didn't see a donkey. I've been there 22 yrs & this is our first nativity. I heard a rumour it's going to be in the form of a rap. MY HEART IS FULL.

When it starts to become a real inconvenience rather than just a pain, you at least know it's getting better!

Oof. That sucks. Hope it starts to mend soon.
