So much of what I read these days is slop devoid of soul. This @michael-thomas.bsky.social piece is a crisp, refreshing reprieve. Thanks @volts.wtf for amplifying it. I’m glad it hit my feed.
Here's a really great, clear explanation from @michael-thomas.bsky.social of what we know about why US electricity prices are rising. (No, it's not data centers, except in some very specific local areas.)
Why Are Electricity Prices Rising?
Probably not for the reasons that you think

This is wild.
30. Decarbonizing aviation is really hard. The CEO of Lufthansa said in 2023 that running its fleet on sustainable aviation fuel made from electricity would take half Germany’s current electricity demand. BNEF thinks this an underestimate.

New @rockymtninst.bsky.social article with my colleagues Ellie Garland and Meredith Cowart: What's next for advanced energy manufacturing in the United States in the wake of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act (OBBBA)?

It's undeniable that the law creates new challenges for many manufacturers.

One thought on this entire year: It's sad if not totally shocking to see that for many folks in public life, their principles are—at best—merely preferences.

Analysis by @jayturner.bsky.social and his team at The Big Green Machine shows roughly the same thing as what I found around a month ago with Clean Economy Tracker data, but his team's sum is even larger: $31.3 billion.
We've surpassed $20 billion in cancelled cleantech manufacturing investment this year. Really sad stuff.

Today, the President will sign the OBBBA into law, repealing and and modifying many clean energy tax credits. Last night we finished updating our analysis of OBBBA at the state-level to see what this bill means for Americans. The results are ugly.

They're* calling it the blackout bill. With new demands from AI, hotter temperatures, and the return of U.S. manufacturing, pulling back on clean energy deployment puts our electricity system at risk.
