Looking for an account that kind of gets the intersection of menopause & hormones with symptomatic hypermobility, mast cell/histamine issues, and dysautonomia (even though there's no research)??

It's me 👋👋
I worked in home health for 5 years. Over time, I learned the secrets to aging well. Within minutes I could clock who did these two things:
1) Not smoking
2) Daily walks

I have a patient who's been seeing specialist after specialist for sleep disruption for 10 YEARS.

1 month of hormone therapy and she's sleeping through the night 🤯

Sometimes my patients crack me up. I told a parient the additional risk of breast cancer from combined hormone therapy is 6 extra cases per 10,000 users per year.

She's said, "Oh, that's nothing. Like, if you told me I had a 6 in 10,000 chance of living, I'd be like, 'Oh ****, I'm dying." 🤣💀

"Menopause is natural, why do we need to do anything about it?"

Pre-eclampsia is natural. Urinary tract infections are natural. Near sightedness is natural. Er*ctile dysfunction is natural. Shall I go on?

I'm not a shill for the pharmaceutical companies; I'm just against unnecessary suffering.

Ever feel like perimenopause turned your stress tolerance to ZERO? 🤔 A 2015 study (PMID: 25531918) shed some light. It suggests that shifting hormones during this time can actually throw off your body's stress response system. Less resilience is a real thing. #perimenopause

I'll prove to you how powerful breathing can be for pain:

Hold ice or a wall sit for 30 seconds. Rate discomfort.

Now do the same while taking deep breaths in over 4 seconds and out over 6 seconds. Rate discomfort.

How'd it go??

60-something Repubs RN: Have faith! Trump is a successful business man has a plan to course correct.

20-something Repubs RN: Trump is playing 3-dimensional chess and crashing the market on purpose so we can finally buy!

They can't both be right. My bet's on neither 🙃 #stagflation #economy #fafo

If you need to fuel your energy with rage today, remember that only 1/3 of OBGYN residencies have required menopause education (and that could just be assigned reading).

The number of providers who will happily dole out oral birth control until age 55 but deny menopause hormone therapy baffles me...

These are obviously smart people who are choosing to turn off their brains when it comes to menopause management. Why? Transdermal HT is safer than oral birth control.

TFW you're sussing out a potential new physician friend and they use the term "physician extenders."

Has anyone had their provider say they don't "believe" in menopause hormone therapy? 🤔

It's not like the tooth fairy. We have medical guidelines supporting its use in the majority of symptomatic women.
January 31, 2025 at 2:32 AM
You do not, I repeat do NOT, need to wait until you stop having periods to start using menopause hormone therapy. This is a made up concept I hear about 8x a day that my patients were told by their primary team.

Did you know? We have a national guideline stating it's a-ok to consider v#ginal estrogen in breast cancer survivors:
Treatment of Urogenital Symptoms in Individuals With a History of Estrogen-dependent Breast Cancer. Clinical Consensus. Dec 2021.

Continuing to debate this makes me feel tired.

Happy MLK Day. Did you know:

Black women tend to have:
🔥 Earlier onset of menopause
🔥 Worse hot flashes
🔥 Longer lasting perimenopause symptoms
🔥 Worse depressive symptoms in menopause
🔥 More sleep disturbances in menopause

These differences aren't likely due to genetics, but rather inequality.
January 20, 2025 at 7:26 PM
I had a patient today whose heart palpitations went from 10 to 1 and whose anxiety went from 10 to 0 with hormone therapy.

And another who was able to discontinue her antidepressant.

Hormones aren't just for hot flashes.

Only 7% of primary care and OBGYN new grads feel confident treating menopause. (Kling, 2019)

It's not their fault that they're not being taught, but it IS on them if they gaslight you when you bring up common symptoms.

Your concerns are legitimate. You deserve better menopause care in 2025 💕

If you don't pet your cat while he's sleeping to make him go "merrrrp?" every chance you get then what is cat ownership even.

Let me try this again. Bluesky, I'm seeking 30 and 40 something moms trying to heal generational trauma while staring down the barrel at perimenopause 🫠🙌
December 27, 2024 at 4:14 AM
Yes menopause is natural. So is pregnancy, but we use nausea medications when needed. And so are cataracts, but we're happy to rely on modern medicine to restore our vision.

Despite what society may say, menopause doesn't create its own special category of required suffering due to naturalness.

A few quotes from patients today:

"I feel NORMAL."
"I feel like myself again."
"I slept 7 hours straight for the first time since I was 15."

Being a menopause specialist is legitimately one of the coolest things. 💕

You know what's even worse than #perimenopause ? Perimenopause with migraines. Hormonal swings often make things worse. The good news? Hormone therapy CAN be considered, even if you have #migraine with aura. Read my blog for the details 👇

Black women face a greater burden of fibroids, with more severe symptoms & complications. They're less likely to be offered conservative management & more likely to undergo hysterectomy, leading to earlier menopause and higher risks of osteoporosis, heart disease, & dementia. #BlackHealthMatters
