Never too late for breakfast, never too early for a beer. Here for food, beer, Disney, dad stuff...(fewer pancakes than you might expect)

My chili pepper plant made the move in a bucket to the new house...and kept growing/ripening! Not sure how hot these will be, so I'm not sure how to use them, yet
Three bright red skinny chili peppers held in front of a white five gallon bucket with a pepper plant growing almost sideways out of it
After school activities force Wednesdays to be easy dinners normally. So when my brother came into town tonight, I tried to stay simple and just add volume: soup, bagged salad, and build your own sandwiches 🍽️🍜
A murky pot of soup with mixed vegetables and chicken shreds floating in it A bunch of different bowls filled with salad fixings including lettuce mix, diced chicken, peppers, scallions, shredded cheese, and tortilla chips A plate of roast beef, turkey, and cheese next to deli containers with mayo, horseradish sauce, and onions
Family trip to the zoo today and got some Great Lakes Nosferatu with my chicken tenders
Behind a cardboard boat of chicken tenders and fries is a clear plastic cup of reddish beer, some small condiment cups with bbq sauce and honey mustard, and a giant soft pretzel
Tonight's grill adventure was doing hasselback potatoes on the grill. I gave them a head start in the microwave, then stuffed the slits with garlic and asiago before grilling. They cooked up pretty good, but I think an oven might give better crisp? Worth trying again 🍜🍽️
Four hasselback potatoes nestled in aluminum foil and sprinkled with asiago cheese Cooked hasselback potatoes with some dark spots still in the aluminum foil but now they're on a baking sheet with grilled cheeseburgers and a couple buns
Baguettes are my bread making nemesis...
there are breads that i enjoy making myself — any quickbread, sourdough boules and batards, flatbreads, biscuits etc. — but you’ll never catch me making a baguette or croissant at home. i live a short bike ride from three boulangeries!
a big thing i learned about myself during covid is that i just want to buy a goddamned baguette from the store or the bakery, i literally never want to make the damned thing myself
A friend sent us a house warming gift...a cutting board that he made! I cut up some mir poix for soup today and it is so nice to cut on
A beautiful end grain cutting board with different types of wood both dark and light colors Cutting board with diced carrots and a chef knife. There is also a tall deli container with diced onion and celery
That was a good idea. Made some peanut sauce for the noodles and sauteed up spinach in sesame oil and garlic. Served with leftover meatloaf 🍽️🍜
Plate with two slices of meatloaf on the left and going around clockwise fettuccini with peanut sauce then sauteed spinach
I forgot that I was going to make a peanut sauce for this! I think I'll do noodles in a peanut sauce to serve with the leftovers
We've got a thai basil plant in our kitchen now, so I want to put it in everything....tonight it's in a meatloaf with garlic, ginger, onion, bell peppers, fish sauce, soy sauce, Sriracha, and oyster sauce. On the side we've got broccoli slaw and mashed potatoes 🍜🍽️

Sounds good! I'll have to get some tofu
Thanks! It worked pretty well other than I was a bit heavy handed with the ginger

Thinking about buying beer brewed in/around the cities of teams in MLB playoffs this October...or maybe just the teams the Phillies play...I'll have to do some shopping
This is cool news. I very much enjoyed "The End of Everything"
🎉 Update from me: I've just sent my editor the first draft of my second book, "How to Build a Universe"! ⚛️ ➡️ 🌌

It's probably still about a year from publication, but even just getting this draft together has been a journey. Really looking forward to sharing more with you! #HowToBuildAUniverse

"Theoretical astrophysicist and author of THE END OF EVERYTHING Dr. Katie
Mack's HOW TO BUILD A UNIVERSE, an exploration of the quantum realm that explains what the universe is really made of and how physicists have arrived at those discoveries, illuminating the weirdly beautiful workings of the universe and how contemporary scientists are approaching deeply unsettling truths about how it is built, to Christopher Richards at Scribner, by Mollie Glick at CAA (NA)."
I've been trying to find time to make this all week! Worth the wait
Special dessert unlocked!
Strawberry shortcake in a bowl on a messy counter
I'm doing a peach bbq sauce to go with the pulled pork currently smoking on the grill
Frozen peach slices sinking into a bbq sauce base in a sauce pan
Ok. Here is the lasagna getting ready for the oven
An uncooked lasagna covered in plenty of cheese fills a square corning baking dish
I don't have pictures, but the last two nights dinners were spaghetti and meatballs, then jambalaya. If I can get lasagna done for tonight's dinner and pulled pork for tomorrow's tailgate, then I'll be successful in fully pre-planning a week of food!

Spaceballs 2 announced the start of production with a table read photo that calls back to The Force Awakens. The parody has started early.
Tonight we tried a new dough recipe, with a new tomato source (my garden), in a new oven...and it went pretty good. The broiler situation on the oven is a bit odd but the pizza got cooked. Ended up with two pizzas and a calzone(stromboli?) that may have been a messed up pizza 🍽️🍜

Last night was burger night! Did bacon cheeseburgers with caramelized onions on homemade buns 🍜🍽️

On the table around the burger plate is a deli container of caramelized onions, a Tupperware of bacon and some sauce bottles with bbq and burger sauces A cheeseburger stacked with bacon and caramelized onions with bbq sauce doing down the side. The bun is homemade with everything bagel seasoning
Continuing the weekend cooking extravaganza...we did breakfast for dinner! Cooked up the breakfast sausage from yesterday as both patties and gravy. Did some sourdough discard biscuits to go with the gravy. Then bacon, eggs, and sourdough rye toast to round out the meal. 🍜🍽️
