What an interesting and sad piece of local history. Such a shame that here is no indication what became of them.

Thanks to Slugger O'Toole for allowing me to write about the joyful insurgency taking place here in Belfast to explore the idea of Belfast becoming a National Park City and the power of asking "What if". You can check it out here:

What if Belfast was a National Park City?

Sky News is platforming a guy who says he's from a Jewish Aston Villa supporters group, but it turns out that the guy a) isn't Jewish, b) the group doesn't exist, and c) he works for the right wing Henry Jackson Society, whose website says he 'specialises in disinformation'. Well, quite.

On the doorstep, people don’t talk flags — they talk housing, bills and Lough Neagh. We’ll always respect aspirations, but while others fixate on flags, we’re tackling inequality and the real crises in people’s lives. The Executive parties have failed on this.

Extreme heat, flooding, and pollution are increasing illness and hospital admissions, overwhelming our NHS. Climate breakdown puts extra pressure on staff and resources, risking care for everyone. We need to act urgently to protect our health service and save lives. #ClimateHealth #GreenJobs

Making the case for wealth taxes on @SkyNewsPolitics just now. Rumours that Chancellor might seek yet more spending cuts are horrifying - public services are already on their knees & top 50 richest families in UK now hold more wealth than the poorest half of the population - over 34 million people.

The war on drugs clearly isn’t working. We need an urgent review of the 50 year old Misuse of Drugs Act, & to start treating drug addiction as a health issue rather than a criminal one, & get drugs out of the hands of criminal gangs #Newsnight

Stormont parties promised 40,000 social homes - but delivered less than 18,000 in 20 years. They have also failed to protect renters - letting landlords profit while thousands struggle to find a decent home.

Reform UK want to take public spending down to 35% of GDP — that’s a £275 billion cut, the equivalent of shutting down the NHS.

The Green Party knows the only way to rebuild our communities is by investing in our public services, not running them down and flogging them off to the private sector.

This is alarming and significant: the first sighting in Northern Ireland of the Asian hornet, a ferociously aggressive predator which decimates the bee population by mass attacks where it rips the heads off bees - which are crucial for pollination.

Actor James Martin welcomed me into his home for a great chat about Good Relations Week. The #GRW2025 ambassador spoke about reaching out to different people and communities. And focus on what you can do rather than what you can’t. Lessons for us all!

I spoke on Nolan this morning and called on Translink & Department of Infrastructure to reduce the cost of public transport over the Xmas period. Put increased services in place to get Belfast & NI moving.

Ease congestion and make it economically viable for people to get on the bus or train.

Stormont and Dept for the Economy says it’s closing the scandal ridden RHI. In fact it’s yet another barefaced giveaway. Payments are set to quadruple, locking in taxpayer handouts until 2036. The RHI scheme isn’t ending; it’s being reborn.

because there are so few problems locally for the police to deal with, they had to send them to drag anti-genocide protestors away in london
The PSNI sent over some of their own officers to help arrest peaceful protesters against the genocide today in London 😡
