Hello Bluesky! My name is Ben but my old friends call me LOAF. I’m best known for helping Chris Roberts dream up Star Citizen but I mostly skeet about Wing Commander esoterica and my life with two wonderful black cats and beautiful wife Ali (plus dumb jokes and nonsense about other media I love).
Don't let it be forgot, that once there was a spot, for one brief shining moment that was known as Camelot…

I would be willing to be nice to Northwestern University for just $35 million. Think it over!
BREAKING: Northwestern University has agreed to pay the U.S. Treasury $75 million, over the course of three years as part of an agreement with the federal government to restore funding and end investigations into the university

I don’t want to get anyone’s hopes up too much but early polling indicates that there’s a strong chance the Wing Commander movie club is going to watch CRASH (1996) next week.

Incredible stuff here!

Wing Commander IV opens with the Black Lance bombing an unarmed medical transport because that's a very easy shorthand for establishing that the people involved are irredeemably evil and that it will be very satisfying to watch them die six CD-ROMs later.

A lot of people have it backwards about AI. In fact: the billions of calculations each second necessary to lead us through a black hole or a quasar is the NAVCOM recreation of the mind of a single Pilgrim.

Ready to feel old? If the 98 year old man that won the lottery and then died the next day in Ironic were still alive he would be 128 today.

My friend, you would not tell with such high zest
To children ardent for some desperate glory,
The old Lie: due to high demand
you have been placed in a queue to visit LEGO.com

Fish took her job as turkey guard cat very seriously.

Who are the people that endlessly bskweet “I can’t believe the president could he so evil/stupid/mean” each news cycle? Where do they come from so many years into this nonsense?

This is a good one! The story is linked in the replies so this isn’t one of those Thank You For Playing Wing Commander myths.
The best. My favorite is the guy who tried to tell Diane Duane in-person that she was a poser and probably hadn't actually played Privateer 2. And it turned out she was on the way back from her agent and had the docs on her to prove she wrote the damn thing

Here’s my Thanksgiving bskweet from last year. I’m very thankful that a year later we are all at home together getting ready for a big meal!
Today we went to the hospital so we could spend Thanksgiving with my mom. We watched the parade and Ali made her food that she happily ate (she’s been having trouble with the hospital food). Very happy to report she continues to improve, can’t wait to see her reunited with her cats.

The dog show did a good job of picking the best dog.

My Dad: “I’ve got the whole house set up like a submarine! You know how submarine movies always have a depth charge scene?”

Me: “… yeah.”

I greatly appreciate my father deciding Star Trek IV would be the first movie I ever saw in a theater.
Hello, computer.

Leonard Nimoy's Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home (aka The One With the Whales!) was released 39 years ago today.

One of the most popular Trek films, the Whale Movie is indeed one of my fav. Fresh, funny, with a fine environmental message, it completes an overall successful trilogy.

When you’re gathering with your loved ones tomorrow be sure to remember what Thanksgiving is really about: Pilgrims.

Rabbits & rats; who could ask for anything more? My Gentlebun, Rat King and Leaping Hare prints play nicely together.

Nice! Let's see if they've added the Wing Commander Academy speech pack... no. Let's see if they've fixed the crash on mission launch they caused by leaving out the default temp files... no. Great work, GOG!

One of the first hints about Seether in Wing Commander IV is that he's wearing the same ribbons as Colonel Blair but in reverse order.

I’m actually glad they didn’t go the Rogue One route with the new Wicked; Peter Cushing would’ve made a terrible Dorothy.
