this is a great example of the internet thing ppl do where they throw “white” into something where it makes little sense. it’s not like the average black, native, asian, or latin person understands immigration law any better. hell, most immigrants don’t know how it works either!
post saying “it is mind-boggling to try and figure out how most white americans think the immigration system works”

I’m not sure the 19 number takes into account Dem efforts to counter. And as always the question is: how safe are these new seats? I’m still waiting for the more sober-minded election needs to game this out.

Gotta think this helps justify a future Dem administration’s decision to essentially terminate ICE and redesign from the bottom up.

The enforcement arm of ICE (ERO) has generally had ~3,500 ppl.

A President could easily fire the entirety of ERO and temp nationalize some Nat Guard to fill in.

NEW: I took a long look at the Proud Boys and found some of their most extreme chapters are sharing ICE recruiting materials on encrypted apps and even suggesting members have joined up. talkingpointsmemo.com/news/in-the-...

Counter Terrorism
Task Force
Trump already gave so many of us jobs with ICE. We may have to start recruiting soon to fill all these spots.

As I was saying, she’s going to play this up whether you like it or not, and whining about the feckless establishment isn’t a counter

I believe in Maine the governor temporarily fills Senate vacancies until there’s a special election, so it could be worse. But not ideal, and no guarantee she’s succeeded by a Dem

The whining about Janet Mills jumping into the Maine Senate race is pretty hard to take. It's fine and healthy for our candidates to run in contested primaries. It's dangerous to simply nominate people by acclamation based on internet vibes. Mills isn't even bad, she's just extremely old.
bam5.bsky.social
In practice I think President advance would’ve more collaborative with the Congressional GOP, but if he actually tried to steamroll them I don’t think they would be intimidated at all. No one worries about a Vance Rally coming to their district
bam5.bsky.social
I swear I’m not a Mills shill but I’ve grown tired of this two-step: Establishment Dems are weak, feckless losers who don’t fight, and we’re smol beans who can’t withstand their power and influence in the party.
bam5.bsky.social
I am sympathetic to this take, but in Mills’ case we actually have a widely-disseminated video of her standing up to Trump, to his face, and winning. So don’t be shocked if normie Dems don’t read the situation like you do.

It's really simple

Voters want an opposition party that will fight for them, and democracy, like there's no tomorrow

Dem elites want a members-only social club where polite, dues-paying members who they like to see at cocktail parties get rewarded with plum roles www.politico.com/news/2025/10...

You see Vance and other would-be successors get tripped up by this all the time. It takes a special sort of skill to whine constantly in a way that your followers find endearing. Most don’t have it!

Chuck Schumer gets his preferred candidate, Janet Mills, in crowded Maine Senate race
Schumer had been aggressively recruiting Mills to challenge Republican Susan Collins.

For the goldfish-brained politicians & pundits who were handing it to Donald Trump over the weekend, it’s critical to understand Trump thinks his job is done, especially re the surviving Israeli hostages, and he could not care less if Israel uses or contrives any reason to resume hostilities
Five Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in Gaza despite ceasefire
Israeli army confirmed it opened fire, saying a group had approached its soldiers before being targeted.

I can’t decide if this would appeal to normies or if it just serves to draw attention to her age (which may voters may not realize!) But, you know, ideally we nominate a Senate candidate who can run for reelection at least once.

I think this is the sort of thing we address (if at all) by prosecuting people after the fact. Getting a plausible plaintiff in front of SCOTUS on such short notice seems unlikely

This also sounds limited in scope? bsky.app/profile/mike...

Nah, they've supposedly got $8B in reprogramming authority (it's actually less than that but whatever), that's in the ball park of what you'd need to cover payroll for one pay period for active duty only

The amount of total RDT&E that's still unobligated is way more than that I'm sure
bam5.bsky.social
I haven’t thought about this in a while, but how does this compare to the 2019 emergency declaration that reprogrammed money for wall construction?
bam5.bsky.social
So do they have a plan for the next pay period or…?
bam5.bsky.social
Maybe it’s because he barely gave a shit until it meaningfully reduced his chances of receiving a free Qatari plane

Genuinely don’t think our political discourse is capable of talking about how Donald Trump—*Donald Trump*—just halted an ongoing genocide.

I have strong doubts that the 'ceasefire' will hold and lead to an actual peace deal, but it seems like, maybe, somehow, Trump kinda learned a lesson here...?

the israeli electorate, in its infinite wisdom, has chosen to stake its country’s future on the idea that netanyahu and trump will be remembered positively by the rest of the world. what could go wrong?

No, you don't gotta hand it to him for possibly getting the third Biden cease fire eight months late after tolerating a mass starvation campaign and demanding a little ethnic cleansing and enormous bribes as a treat, and only because Netanyahu surprise bombed the chief bribe facilitator.

Surely putting Baron in charge would only hasten its demise!
bam5.bsky.social
I don’t really consider this a “political” solution though. By the time we have the opportunity to prosecute the people who carried out this order, the fact that they Did It For The Troops doesn’t help them much.
bam5.bsky.social
All we can do is threaten antideficiency act prosecutions and carry them out. If the threats don’t work, maybe that means we needed this opportunity to demonstrate credibility

Yeah Matt Novak left the country because he was so depressed by Trump’s win the first time. I expect him to declare defeat at the first Trump post.
