The NWS Storm Prediction Center has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Watch for portions of
Southern California
Coastal Waters

* Effective this Monday night and Tuesday morning from 1115 PM
until 600 AM PDT.

* Primary threats include...
Isolated damaging wind gusts to 70 mph possible
A tornado or two possible

SUMMARY...A line of low-topped convection will move
east-southeastward through the early morning hours while posing a
threat for mainly occasional strong to damaging winds. A brief
tornado or two may also occur.

The severe thunderstorm watch area is approximately along and 35
statute miles east and west of a line from 15 miles west northwest
of Paso Robles CA to 20 miles southwest of Los Angeles CA. For a
complete depiction of the watch see the associated watch outline
update (WOUS64 KWNS WOU2).

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

REMEMBER...A Severe Thunderstorm Watch means conditions are
favorable for severe thunderstorms in and close to the watch area.
Persons in these areas should be on the lookout for threatening
weather conditions and listen for later statements and possible
warnings. Severe thunderstorms can and occasionally do produce
tornadoes.

AVIATION...A few severe thunderstorms with hail surface and aloft to
0 inches. Extreme turbulence and surface wind gusts to 60 knots. A
few cumulonimbi with maximum tops to 250. Mean storm motion vector

Rare overnight risk of #tornadoes tonight in Southern California. A rare instance of heightened wind shear combined with presice location of convection in relation to the parent low has created an environment where a couple spin ups are possible. Mostly a linear storm mode,though .

A typhoon hit the west coast of Alaska and several homes and communities have been washed out. Most of the communities are indigenous, so…no press coverage.

They also can’t count on FEMA.

For those curious, the four main tornadoes featured above are the 2024 Rome tornado, 2006 Pocantico Hills Tornado, the 2013 Mariaville tornado and 2014 Delanson tornado (all of which are in NY since it's my home state and I am biased.)

[2] Still very much a work in progress as many tornadoes (especially ones that are listed as a single point in official databases) are not included yet. Primary methods of analysis include Google earth imagery, newspaper articles, NWS sources, and retroactive damage location assessments.
