Key part of this is that it actually shows me what I lose when I procrastinate.
Workflow is: set a word counter for 200 words and a timer for 12 minutes. Hit the word target at any cost, save, and have the next word counter ready to go before 12 minutes are up. Grade out of ten, if its less than nine, redo that section, minus one point for every attempt.

I've kept the "worldbuilding" of Maidens deliberately loose and occluded. Many things and people exist in Maidens as they did in the reality of 1980 (the works of Yukio Mishima and Junichiro Tanizaki, Great Britain, the dance crazes of the 60s) but the world is vastly different

a detail about Maidens I really enjoy is how she doesn't name any of the NCOs. They're faceless and nameless, to reinforce the notion that what's going on here is fully systemic; there's no big bad evil guy. the abuses take place at the hands of the slobs' peers, under threat of worse punishment.
