There is a chronic lack of empathy in the tech world. And it goes deeper that how we typically think of empathy, too. It is an overall lack of interpersonal intelligence.

They're set, and it's not their problem that they can mess with your entire life. You're a number, not a human. Blah blah blah.

Being able to voice your viewpoint and opinions in the tech world without it being used against you is a privilege.

You will lose out on opportunities that you absolutely need because of people in positions of power.

That is a reality that nobody wants to talk about.

2023 I was bedridden before a surgery, did not attend.

This was always true, but has become even more true now that we have AI to do a lot of what formerly took the most time.

And anyway, the time it takes to do something doesn't equate to its importance. If you're coding to solve the wrong problem for hours it doesn't matter.

There is a dichotomy between valuing connection and authenticity with others and valuing optimization and getting things done. It was always there, but the presence of AI in the mainstream has exacerbated it. Like most things, it is not a true dichotomy, but more of a spectrum.
