I've hugged someone who hugged someone alive during the civil war. I think about that a lot actually.

I'm 30. Growing up, my great aunt lived with me and my family. She lived to over 95. She was born in 1915... 2 years after Harriet Tubman died. Never let them tell you it was "so long ago". It's just a few generations back

Exactly! My mother was not able to vote when she was born! (The voting act of 1965 made it easier for black women to vote, it was technically legal in 1920 but not enforced)
Yep. I think about this a lot. & of course, slavery continues through the incarceration system in US to this day. There r still people alive who lived through the Holocaust. When my grandmother was born, her mother still couldn’t vote….People forget history way too quickly.
