Personally, I head canon that time in XIV flows in much the same as our irl time.
Each expansion is 1-2 years.
Each story patch takes days, weeks, or months depending on pacing.
As for the complexity, I think the only bit I get stuck on his how the altering flow of the First works.

Because I like shorter races and I find Lalafells cute. If I'm going to play a game hundreds of hours long, I'd rather my character be something I'll always be happy to see.
Also, I know how to not limit Lalas to just being cute, since other short races like Halflings can be played straight.

Because I like shorter races and I find Lalafells cute. If I'm going to play a game hundreds of hours long, I'd rather my character be something I'll always be happy to see.
