Celebrate October by posting arachnids and spiders with the tag #Arachtober. I am jciv, a macro photographer living in South Texas, USA, who loves spiders. At the moment, I am posting mainly stereographic 3D macro photos. 🇺🇸📸🕷️ https://arachtober.com

#Arachtober 13
Crab Spider 2:1 magnification macro I shot last night. I love the depth and detail of this one. Found in South Texas, USA.

Thanks. I always wonder how many can see the 3D.

#Arachtober 12 - Small Grass Lynx #Spider with huge egg sac. Lynx spiders guard their eggs but I wonder why it was at the end of a leaf. Lynxes don't carry their egg sac, but some will move them if necessary. Looks like Oxyopes acleistus, I think. South Texas USA #macrophotography #naturephotography

Green Lynx Spider (Peucetia viridans) - #Arachtober 11
After yesterday's slightly flat stereo image, here is a much better one. Composition isn't the best, but it looks great in 3D. #CrossView #Stereogram #naturephotography #macrophotography #spider

#arachtober A-Z:

Day 9: I is for Indoxysticus - a monotypic crab spider genus with a very distinct abdomen pattern
Day 10: J is for Jerzego - an oddly named genus of jumping spiders that seem to mimic ants and hate being photographed

I work in an exhibit with live spiders, and I think I have lost count how often people misheard "green lynx spider" as "green link spider"...
Two illustrations of a green lynx spider (green spider with two bigger forward facing eyes and lighter colored legs) stacked on top of one another. The one on top is labeled "Green Lynx Spider (Peucetia viridans)", the actual name of the spider. The one below is wearing a green, pointy hat, carrying a blue shield and sword drawn to look like the Hylian shield and Master sword from the "Legend of Zelda", series and is labeled "Green Link Spider (Peucetia hylia)".

#invertober 11, dark fishing spider 🎣

#invertober2025
symmetrical blocky art of a dark fishing spider with stylized patterning, colored like black on red greek pottery. there is a black border on the image with a greek-esque choppy line pattern

I'm not sure. This pattern is pretty common for larger juveniles I find.

I shoot with traditional macro lenses. If the subject doesn't move, you can use two different shots to represent the different views of our eye. For capturing subjects in motion or taking video there are specialized stereo lenses or dual camera setups. See: stereosite.com/stereo-photo...

#Stereography presents two images of a subject taken a distance apart to provide each eye with a slightly different view just like how we normally see. With macros, it is depth we can't actually see in real life so well. Here is a tutorial how to view the 3D with just your eyes: vimeo.com/15209071
Tutorial to help learn cross-viewing 3D
This tutorial should be considered as another tool willing to help learn how to view side-by-side images in stereoscopic 3D using the cross-eyed viewing method. Unfortunatly,…

She has an account, but I think that's it. I am a little bit nuts posting on way too many platforms during Arachtober.

#Arachtober 10th is International Jumping Spider Day! Created in 2017 to show the cutest and most adorable spiders as a way for people to embrace instead of fear spiders. Started by photographer Shaham Tamir.

Different species of wolf spider from yesterday. Far more common around here in South Texas, USA. Yet they don't have a common name. I can find bunches of these in my yard most any night.

A pseudoscorpion for #arachtober. A Compost Chernes [pselaphochernes scorpioides] from the garden compost heap.
#wildlifefrommywindow #invertebrates #ukwildlife #gardenwildlife #macro
A plan view of a eight legged invertebrate that has two long arms reaching out from its head with crab like claws on the end. The body looks like one large reddy brown oval, with the main portion bisected by a lighter line, with each side split into 10 regular sections. The body, arms, and legs, are covered in tiny short hairs, with occaisional longer ones which act as sensory organs.

Throwback pic from October '21 of a female Golden Orb Weaver (Trichonephila clavipes) at Green Swamp Preserve, NC. The background shows a hint of the habitat, longleaf pine savanna. I love this shot because it reminds me of a gorgeous day; I saw only one other person in six hours. #Arachtober 🌿🐙📷
A closeup photo of a golden orb weaver spider, hanging upside down diagonally along a strand of silk. The spider has an elongated orange abdomen, and long orange and black banded legs. The background is out of focus vertical tree trunks in the upper third, with greenery in the lower two thirds.

I went Mac when I saw how Mac like Windows was becoming. It was weird to begin with but not that bad. Most of what I do is in a browser or Lightroom so OS doesn't matter much. Hardly turn on my old PC anymore.

I think fast and erratic fits pretty well.

Thanks. Yours looks good. I started with some very similar shots. After I get a good ID shot, I sometimes try to get lower to get a face shot. And I cropped a lot.

Rabid Wolf Spider (Rabidosa rabida) - #Arachtober 8
Not as bad as it sounds. It doesn't mean it has rabies. The Rabida scientific name from Latin translates to extremely violent, furious, or unfavorable behavior. Found in South Tex.

Prowling spider, Syspira sp., one of my favorite desert species. This one was barely 1/2 inch including leg span. Shot at 4.5X & a slight crop; nine shots stacked together to get the whole face in focus. I love how well camouflaged it is on the pale sand, like a little spider ghost. #Arachtober 🌿🐙👻🕷️
An extreme closeup photo, at ground level, looking into the face of a cream-colored spider on similarly-colored sand. The spider has sparse dark hairs and several longer spiny hairs, and dark eyes. All eight eyes are visible. Most of the legs are out of frame. There's a bit of crinkly silk in the lower left.

Day 7 of #Arachtober another spider with prey. I thought ladybirds (ladybugs for Americans) tasted foul so aren’t predated but it appears not to bother this one. I think the spider is a lace web spider, Amaurobius sp. They often build these lacy webs in windows of garages and sheds.
