also why an American ally will never be able to crush an insurgency because they're subject to much scrutiny on the international stage compared to pariah states like Iran or influential dystopic regimes like China.
The disturbing thing about commonly accepted wisdom about how complex insurgencies can't really be put down is that they absolutely can, as long as the state actor trying to crush them is willing to be brutal enough. Have you heard much of Uyghur or Rohingya resistance groups lately?

sure, that's true but that doesn't make it any less destructive to other Muslim countries that can't afford an alternative to the Suez Canal especially Egypt.
