Over/under is *about* what happens next. What does Jack Donaghy do when NBC is bought by a company from Connecticut? He makes the worst fucking couch and becomes CEO. I think if Josh goes to the Choke then I'll miss out on something fascinating.

So I'm keeping my poison pill in my pocket. For now.

Normally, in this situation, my instinct is to concede defeat. Congratulate the winner, marvel over their good moves, contemplate my bad ones, rue the vagaries of luck. Good game, good game!

But that's not what over/under is.

Well, yesterday I lost. Personally and factionally. Stratemeyer is still in the game, sort of, but it's hard to see a way back, and certainly no realistic path to anything called winning. And all of Josh's big plans to grab at some control got smashed up in its wake.

Hitting a motivation slump in #over/under this morning, and reflecting on why.

A lot of the players approach the games as an RP experience. A small subset of the players get to engage with it as a wargame. I like an RPG, but I approach *this* game as a gamer. I came to strategise and to try to win.

Yes. I think there's a strata of players, at which I'm on the periphery, for whom there is access to both the TTRPG *and* the wargame - but because both are totalising you can't really give them both full attention. You have to make a choice.

Take care of yourself! There's an interesting thing about games like this - noted frequently in eg the TV show Survivor - where getting cut off before the end can leave a real void. I hope that your transition back to civilian life goes smoothly. It was really fun playing with you.

Before the game I thought I was going to be pushing armies around, making none of the mistakes my Cataphracts commanders keep making.

Then the game started, and my focus became just making money and sticking my flag out on the top 10.

As of this week I'm much more making fun storylines happen.

* Very good
* Taking up a lot of my time
* More TTRPG than I expected, and less wargame
* A bit reminiscent of MUDs, and a bit reminiscent of very early blognomic
* Extremely ready to be adapted into a LARP
* Maybe the best game I've played this year so far

Turnout for leadership elections tends to be high; the cohort of people who join a political party tends to be highly committed and engaged.

A large chunk of the membership being insufficiently motivated to vote for the leader is a bad sign for them being motivated to knock on doors.
