I realize that the email newsletter may not be doing the best job of deciding which stories to feature, but we literally had a story about ICE doing courthouse arrests yesterday too www.providencejournal.com/story/news/p...

ICE is making arrests outside RI courthouses. These volunteers are trying to stop them.

ICE agents in masks and unmarked cars have been operating outside RI courthouses, and a network of volunteers have been protesting their presence.

Though Hasbro came to be practically synonymous with Pawtucket, the company got its start in Providence in the 1920s. Hassenfeld Brothers, as it was known as the time, sold textile remnants – essentially, fabric scraps.

As former Providence Journal reporter G. Wayne Miller recounts in his book “Kid Number One: Alan Hassenfeld and Hasbro,” the Hassenfeld brothers came up with creative new ways to use those scraps, like lining wooden pencil boxes. Soon, they’d expanded to selling school supplies. That, in turn, led to toys.

[September 16th, 1945] Rhode Island State Prison hosted a Labor Day clambake, surprising old-timers with 500 inmates and staff enjoying clams, quahaugs, and food. Funded by commissary profits, Warden Cranor said the inmates earned it, celebrating their wartime contributions.
