I've argued for some time that independence is a black hole onto which we can superimpose our hopes or fears. It is a blank canvas. Talking about what replaces the UK is tangible and realisable. So it can be campaigned for specifically and in detail.

I think it is vital that we have a GB-wide conversation on this. Our historic nationhoods are reasserting themselves in this post imperial era. What is our vision for Great Britain as our home? Multicultural British pluralism, a family of nations with a union that reflects that reality.

@zackpolanski.bsky.social we need to open up this debate. You might have heard of @plaidcymru.bsky.social's Gwynfor Evans who took on Thatcher in a fight to secure S4C for Wales? He proposed a "Brittanic Union" to replace the UK.
