I'm surprisingly 100% on board with this. My friend's younger sister was fooled in '16, and though I still side-eye her sometimes, we've all moved on.

I broke up a 20y friendship for the '24 vote. You don't get to vote for the "kill my family" party and still reap the benefits of knowing who I am.

This is all really a subvariant of deliverism. Deliverism says “fix policy problems and people will vote for you.” But it didn’t work because voters believed a bunch of lies about fake problems. So now people are arguing “Well, the reason voters believed those lies was because of policy problems.”

When people claim to be voting based on some problem that doesn’t exist, be it food price inflation, crime increases, or immigrant caravans, “they’re lying and/or misinformed” IS the most parsimonious explanation.

“They’re expressing sublimated anger over something else” is much more convoluted.

lots of cops have been snapping photos of protesters. saw a couple sneaking pics from behind the trees earlier.

protesters still heckling cops and yelling at ice as they come/go.

unsure if the cops just think it’s funny or what.

like in previous days, a large contingent of state troopers, cook county sheriff’s police, and assorted local cops are guarding the ice detention center and keeping the streets clear for ice.

masked federal agents have been on a tear through chicago neighborhoods today—enabled in no small part by the state + local cops now running security for ice in broadview.

at least 2 people abducted in cicero, 2 in humboldt park/hermosa, 3 in garfield ridge. sightings in schaumburg + hanover park.

hello from outside the ice detention center in broadview, illinois.

i’m at the corner of 25th and harvard, where a small (for now) crowd is gathering to protest the masked federal agents abducting people throughout chicagoland.

state and local police have already made a handful of arrests today.

two large buses driven by masked federal agents just arrived back at the broadview ice detention center and passed through the illinois state police checkpoint.

both appeared empty.

an agent on the white bus appeared to be filming the crowd.
