Maybe I should have taken him on my road trips to stop at monuments and historical markers to see (in these pics) LGBTQ+, women, Black and Asian military who volunteered, fought and died for the Woke Department of their country.

LGBTQ+ monument at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery in Elwood, Illinois. Below an inverted pink triangle it says:

“…with liberty and justice for all…”

Gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people have served honorably and admirably in America’s Armed Forces.

In their memory and in appreciation of their selfless service and sacrifice, this monument was dedicated by Chicago chapter, American Veterans for Equal Rights (AVER).

Cathay Williams historical marker near Deming, New Mexico. It reads:

Born into slavery, Cathay was liberated in 1861 and worked as a cook for the Union army during the Civil War. In 1866 she enlisted in the U.S. Army as Private William Cathey serving with the Buffalo Soldiers at Fort Cummings and Fort Bayard until 1868. She is the only documented woman to serve as an enlisted soldier in the Regular U.S. Army during the 19th century.
