The No Kings March in Chicago is one of the largest gatherings I’ve seen here. Looking down from by the river, the crowd stretches for blocks down Michigan Ave and wraps around Wacker Dr. This video is from a few minutes ago and the end of the protest is nowhere in sight.

My friend Andrew Lih @fuzheado.bsky.social is a freakin hero. A gunman came into his Wikipedia event, and he grabbed and disarmed him. Thanks to him and another brave volunteer, no one was hurt—not even the gunman.

Now let’s ask why we accept a society where this can happen at any large gathering.

Somewhere there’s an Onion article where a Chicago cop gets arrested for not having a mustache. Which is funny. But this is not normal.
It’s been about 2 months since I accidentally updated the Twitter app and failed to interrupt it in time to save the bird, yet X never appeared.

Here’s what I’ve learned over 8 weeks of ignoring that other microblogging (lol) app:
Look, I thought I knew things, but I had no idea that Bill Murray is on tour in a classic rock cover band. billandbloodbrothers.com
The Blue Jays came to play. I’m really enjoying this series despite being a National League elitist.
While we wait *forever* for a Bloomingdale Trail aka 606 extension, I wonder why this broken bridge section of the long-defunct rail line is still dangling over the Chicago River.
Looks like they’re making progress on the Cortland Bridge renovation. Yes, bicycles, scooters, pedestrians can still cross. Cars, no. So what are they doing in there?

They're trying to prevent the student newspaper from printing news, period. Not just a particular story.

"The Media School directed us to print no news in the paper... nothing but information about homecoming — no other news at all, and particularly no traditional front page news coverage."
Indiana University has fired the staff director of the student newspaper, after disputes in which university leadership tried to pressure him to prevent students from publishing news.
Checking in on Dorothy and Toto on the regular evening walk around Oz Park and everything feels normal for one brief moment.

Thank you, Evanston, my work home, leading by example ✊
Evanston votes on banning ICE officers from using city property as staging areas and strengthening it's welcoming cities ordinance.

Unanimously passes.

Biss says staff will begin implementing it immediately.
Good call. This MSG Scarlet is turning my morning around. This might’ve been that brief period where we thought Jerry was off the junk, eating greens, and actively treadmilling?

I’m intrigued. Sweden tried this with Covid iirc and it didn’t turn out so well.
Sweden is running a national experiment in AI, offering free access to AI tools at a population level in the hope of boosting its economy and tech literacy. In his first piece for Tech Policy Press, Chris Stokel-Walker reports from Stockholm on how the country's bid to 'democratize' AI is unfolding.
