The line about the man with the most power expending enormous energy targeting those with the least really got me. I think you can broaden the aperture beyond this specific issue and across party lines. People with nothing to lose consistently abandoning those on the brink of losing everything.

Political actors can hold an ideology without that ideology being perfectly manifested in the government they lead right? The same way that if Bernie Sanders had been elected President you could have fairly called him a socialist, without it following that we were living in a socialist state.
