More opportunities to see me perform comedy. I've even added my first date in the new year! If you know a show in or around the Vancouver area that you'd like to see me at, tell the booker! And if you're a booker who would like to see me on your show, reach out!
I have both a #beard and #anxiety that someone's going to say I don't look like my #passport photo so this passport renewal, I came up with a plan!

Half-beard, go! Form of half of my beard! (Am I the only one who remembers that flash animation?)

I guess I'm just #builtdifferent compared to most #men . Truly a lion among lambs.

The worst part of this #joke is that I've been doing yoga for the last four years and am actually quite flexible. Now everyone is going to think I'm not.

Numeral classifiers are #words you can #count on (and were the bane of my #Korean #language training).

AKA count/counting words, they're like English measure words (PIECE of paper, HEAD of cattle) but many Asian (and even some Mayan) languages use them all the time!

#Korean #language uses two separate #number systems with different origins. And they made me learn both of them during my Korean language training. Unbelievable. Who would have thought learning a language involves actually learning the language?

When is a #billion not a billion? During tax season.

The word billion can mean different #numbers depending on your #language . Even American and British English used to define it differently. The short and long scale can cause confusion but I think they're neat.

There is absolutely nothing strange about these base 10 #number systems. Nothing at all.

In their own way, #English numbers are as weird as French or Danish. And #Chinese , #Japanese , and #Korean have a #myriad of unfamiliar #words .

#Danish #numbers are as foreign to me as, well, a foreign #language

As much as people complain about numbers in #French , Danish takes it to a whole other level! Both can seem weird because they use base 20 while most languages use base 10. But in #linguistics , it's not wrong, it's just different.

If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you #handy . Just remember to tie your hair back before playing with rotating things.

The most embarrassing part is that I managed to do it twice because I don't always learn from my mistakes.

It's tough to be an #introvert in an #extrovert world. To me, being #social is like running. I can do it in short bursts. I can even enjoy it. But you need to give me a chance to catch my breath every so often.

#Animals don't understand #language . At least not the way humans do. But they can still show real #intelligence and understanding.

The difference between language and #communication is complexity and structure. Animals lack this but, hey, even some humans can't clear that bar!

#Baby sign might be a useful tool for parents but it is NOT #signlanguage due to a lack of grammar and complexity.

#BabyTalk is surprisingly complex and designed to aid #LanguageAcquisition through simplified grammar and vocabulary as well as exaggerated pitch. It's near universal, with virtually all cultures engaging in it in some form.

Proto-Indo-European languages show a regional divide based on their #words for "hundred". But it's not a split in the PIE family tree, rather it's more likely a regional sound change.

Classical #Latin didn't sound the way you probably thought it did.

I know I'm bad at pronouncing things outside my accent and yet I keep writing videos where I'm forced to try because I think sound changes are cool.

#Delivery people provide a valuable #service under difficult conditions. I was just trying to be a good neighbour, not insult the quality of their work. When you're as #awkward as me, sometimes trying to be #nice can accidentally cross over into being #rude

Interest and #passion lead to more of the same. It's rarely on the surface so if something isn't #interesting , maybe you didn't dig deep enough. Or maybe it really was super boring. It's hard to tell.

And yes, the linguistics videos have started changing that #perception

Surely "sure" should start with "s" not "sh" but it doesn't due to yod-coalescence, an #English sound change where palatal approximates turn consonant clusters into sibilants.

Candle, chandelier, and chandler have the same #Latin origin but different initial consonants. It's just proof that language in general, and #English in particular, isn't consistent.

#Canada and #Denmark share a land #border on an uninhabited #Arctic island. The 2022 agreement ended #TheWhiskeyWar where the countries would periodically visit the island and leave gifts of alcohol.

And they're not even the only #European #country Canada shares a border with.
