The record for the longest filibuster was set by U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond (SC). He spoke for 24 hours 18 minutes against the Civil Rights Act of 1957.
He was one of many senators who filibustered for 57 days up until the Civil Rights Act was passed on June 19, 1957.
