They always start with free speech. It sounds reasonable, doesn’t it? Free speech? And they can use it to shut down anyone who criticises them, because it’s all “free speech”

After “free speech” it’s “protecting women and girls”

And then it’s whatever they actually wanted.
The right-wing campaign group that helped topple Roe v Wade in the US is now working to roll back abortion laws in the UK, with the help of Nigel Farage.

Its first step? Trying to create a debate around "free speech"

If you have opinions on this and are on the club's mailing list there was an e-mail sent out today surveying fans about attitudes towards their brand partners.

For a club that espouses the importance of ‘values’, reports that the club is considering renewing the Rwanda sponsorship deal are depressing. Arsenal shouldn't allow itself to be used to launder reputations of murderous dictatorships. Should fans be putting more pressure on those in power?

Let us hope these "discussions" lead to nothing but the termination of this indefensible commercial relationship with Kagame's dictatorship. As to you, fellow Arsenal fans, why parade shirts which promote it? We too share responsability here.
Arsenal are in discussions over extending their sponsorship deal with Visit Rwanda.

Arsenal fan group Gunners For Peace said discussions over extending the deal brought the club’s values into question.

“My wife went to Riyadh to see an edgy comedian”
“Jimmy Carr?”
“No, she went of her own accord”

According to Atsuko Okatsuka, Jimmy Carr, Omid Djalili and the other fearless free speech comedians who took MBS' money to play the Riyadh Comedy Festival had to agree not to do any jokes about Saudi.
Okatsuka also posted the list of things comedians have been told they weren't allowed to talk about, including jokes "that may be considered to degrade, defame, or bring into public disrepute, contempt, scandal, embarrassment, or ridicule" Saudi Arabia, its ruling government, royal family, or any religion or religious figure, period

It's incredible how slowly the wheels of justice can turn when the alleged victims are powerless women and children and their alleged attacker is a wealthy and influential man.
Although the man's identity has been protected, the Football Association's safeguarding department is aware of the allegations against him and began an investigation of its own last November to determine "the risk this individual may, or does, pose to children and/or adults at risk within affiliated football".

If the FA believes there is a significant risk, it has the power to issue an interim suspension order while a full risk assessment report is carried out. That, however, has not happened in this case and the man in question continues to work as normal while the FA's investigation remains ongoing

Doubtless preliminary and early days, but this sounds very exciting indeed.
This is very exciting! A small clinical trial using gene therapy for Huntington's disease has been successful. microRNAs were used to edit the Huntington mRNA, stopping it making mutant protein that can damage neurons. Huge hopes now for treating such a devastating condition
Huntington's disease successfully treated for first time
One of the most devastating diseases finally has a treatment that can slow its progression and transform lives, tearful doctors tell BBC.

Nigel Farage just repeatedly denied – under oath! – to @raskin.house.gov
ever banning journalists he doesn’t like from his party’s conventions.

This happened to me *literally today*.
Nigel Farage is about to give evidence to the US Congress on threats to free speech in the UK.

So here's one for him: Reform UK has just banned me (and @thenewworldmag.bsky.social) from attending its party conference this weekend. www.thenewworld.co.uk/james-ball-w...
Chicken Farage bans The New World
It claims to be the party of free speech, but this last-minute decision to stop me attending tells a very different story
