Homeboy Industries shared their appreciation for the support as they stand with those on the margins until the margins themselves are erased.
One such endeavor is Homeboy Electronics Recycling. They have diverted 4.7 million pounds of electronic waste from landfills and employed over 70 people impacted by the justice system in the process. (WOW!!)
Founded in 1988, Homeboy Industries provides hope, job training, & support to formerly incarcerated & previously gang-involved people. Our grant of $50K in 2024 enabled Homeboy Industries to offer workforce development opportunities to participants in the organization’s social enterprise businesses.
If you attended the #HelpingHands2024 concert in Los Angeles, you learned about #HomeboyIndustries. This #FollowUpFriday, we are inspired to share their success story. 🧵

Our #MetallicaScholars funding enables Cheick to focus on his studies and pursue his ambition of becoming an aviation engineer. We’re proud to say that he also shares our passion for giving back and strongly desires to one day help other students achieve their goals!
Meet Cheick. Originally from Côte d'Ivoire, he came to the United States with the dream of gaining an education previously out of reach. After learning English at Guilford Technical Community College, he discovered the Aviation Manufacturing program and quickly excelled.
Launched in 2024, the academy provides classroom instruction and hands-on learning in the welding, commercial vehicle operation, electrical, automotive technology, and heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) trades to help students plan their next steps after high school.
One innovative way the Community College of Allegheny County uses its #MetallicaScholars funding is through its Skilled Trades Academy, a free program designed to introduce high school students to the trades.

#AWMH knows that manufacturing is a critical component of our past, present, and future, which is why we are so proud to invest in workforce education.

Manufacturing is an innovative, evolving, and enduring sector that contributes $2.9 trillion to the U.S. economy, employs nearly 12.9 million American workers, and accounts for 11 percent of the nation’s GDP.
Over the coming weeks, we’ll celebrate #NationalManufacturingMonth by spotlighting our #MetallicaScholars training in manufacturing programs. These are the tradespeople who will go on to create products that keep us safe, enrich our lives, and strengthen our economic and national security.
