Where there is a will, there is a way (they won’t go forward but let’s theorise). Paris and London have historically used gatelines at stations much smaller than Berlin‘s and a lot of systems install them on platforms or right after stairs, with obvious disadvantages to the passengers.

Die Berliner CDU will Bahnsteigsperren für „mehr Sauberkeit“. Hier ist mein (sehr komischer und absolut unrealistischer) Vorschlag:

Yes but the Bund payed for that so it is fake money (or at least that’s what they were told in Berlin)

For 400 mil € let’s not forget that

The catalogue is very messy when it comes to non-English titles. It’s is unorganised, artists are mixed up, album/song covers are wrong or don’t exist. Also tidal has no Samsung tv app.

Qobuz and Tidal are already out btw

I need good Spotify alternatives and by good, I mean:
- okay sound quality (nothing crazy)
- varied and organised catalogue. I listen to non-English music too and I don’t wanna see artists getting mixed up
- Samsung TV App
- maybe okay morals; ie not deep into AI, likes musicians a bit

To say that this is horrific would be an understatement.

🇸🇰 Slovakia: “Two express passenger trains collided head-on in the Rožňava district, injuring at least 20 people, emergency services report. No fatalities confirmed. Ambulances and a rescue helicopter are on scene; passengers evacuated amid ongoing investigation into cause.”

Yes, and they actually had one of the largest stands and showcased new models.

I wasn’t particularly impressed by the buses, but I liked their new electric chassis and would love to see how it stands up against Volvo or Daimler and if coachbuilders can get creative with it.

The most German welcome 😅 the RE13 is also the most cursed cross-border service

Airports is one use scenario, though Caetano does market this as a BRT solution. Still, most if not all BRT systems are made for one-sided operations and I don’t think that any city will be basing their operations on one double sided bus model

(13/13) All in all, I enjoyed my visit, however I’d like to see a bigger focus on transit. I did get to see however a lot of new models and met a lot of interesting people!

(12/13) Regional buses long felt like an attempt to downgrade a coach to urban standards, however Setra did a pretty good job with their newest model. Great interior layout too!

(11/13) Hydrogen was big on the expo with both legacy and more unknown manufacturers offering them in all sizes

(10/13) More odd things! A seat that converts into a baby seat, an outside display for the line number and plan and the little self drivingbuses by Karsan, a Turkish manufacturer which has seen success with their sub 8 m model.

(9/13) CRRC builds buses, not just trains. They aren’t bad either; the double decker model for the RHD Market was by far the most spacious double decker bus.

(8/13) Marcopolo is a well-known Brazilian coachbuilder with is now launching products in the European market. In Europe, it is quite shocking to see a 2+1 layout, 23 seat bus with two toilets made for 10+ hour rides, however it seems to be pretty standard in the Brazilian market

(7/13) Now, time for the curious stuff - starting with the Caetano H2.City Gold BRT 18 m bus with doors on both sides. I am not sure about how useful this is or how it would be compatible with street regulations, but it was actually quirky.

(6/13) The Citaro is an amazing bus, however it is clearly an adaption of the diesel powered version, which limits the interior layout and passenger comfort. I don’t know if Mercedes-Benz can keep up with the competition by presenting essentially the same bus for every model cycle.

(5/13) The HESS LighTram for Geneva was by far my favourite urban bus, with a nice interior layout and a lot of space for passengers.

(4/13) The Neoplan Skylines will probably forever remain the golden standard for double decker buses. Headroom is better than the competition and there is generous luggage space (a rarity for such models) and can be equipped with a manual ramp - crucial for accessibility.

(3/13) The MAN Lion‘s Coach E was probably the best coach I saw and it was rightfully one of the most overhyped products of the expo.

(2/13) Unsurprisingly, Chinese and Turkish suppliers dominate. Unsurprisingly, electrification is a big topic - though this is restricted in batteries. Trolleybuses were hardly present. Coaches are also up for electrification, with a lot of new models from new and legacy manufacturers too.

So, I visited Busworld last week and here are some things I saw and found interesting! A short thread (1/13)
