They’ve been like this long before Trump.

Remember what they said about President Obama, or their statements about gay people, or their hostility toward civil rights legislation.

This isn’t new.

Mike Johnson — man of deep faith, we are told — wants pastors to be shot in the head with pepper balls.

Q: We've seen images out of Chicago of federal agents shooting faith leaders with pepper balls and arresting journalists. Where's the limit for you on what's acceptable conduct by federal agents?

MIKE JOHNSON: I've not seen them cross the line yet.

americans have been learning about "no kings" via alternative media. social media, tiktok etc. we dont need the msm anymore and progressives should be investing billions in building up our own alternative information beachheads instead of constantly begging the dying msm to "do better"

This from the great @sulliview.bsky.social on the media's anemic (or non-) coverage of the massive No Kings movement is such a great point

We're told at least one person was arrested—and later released with a citation for disorderly—by Broadview police for simply being on the Maywood side of 25th at Harvard St outside the ICE facility this morning.

They were documenting agents coming and going as electeds have told people to do.

A ceasefire seems to be here, but make no doubt that the horrors inflicted on Gaza by Israel with U.S. support where a testing ground.

Not only have they proven governments can commit atrocities without consequences, they have a blueprint to bring those horrors home.
Be sure of this: many of the horrors the west allowed in Gaza will come closer to home | Owen Jones
History shows the crimes of empire were later mirrored on European soil. Dehumanisation and militarised terror both seem normalised now, says Guardian columnist Owen Jones

And yes, I am for more paid time off holidays. So ending Columbus Day and making 3 new holidays on separate days is very much a good needed thing.
alexmorash.bsky.social
The fact that the holiday was around anti immigrant violence and America’s brutal lynching history makes me feel like a first people/indigenous peoples day should be celebrated on a different day and something around immigrants or remembering the victims of lynching would be more appropriate.

I’ve never been a fan of Christopher Columbus (the genocide, the poor math skills).

What I only heard last year and wasn’t sure if it was true until now was that apparently the holiday started to repair ties with Italy after a group of Italian Americans were lynched in New Orleans.

People are fleeing South Florida because rents and mortgages are over priced.

Florida forgets that its charm has always been it is the cheap place to live if you want warm weather.

Florida doesn’t work if it’s not cheap to live here. DeSantis and the GOP have ruined a good thing.

A 13-year-old boy was arrested by ICE in Everett and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia.
A 13-year-old boy was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents in Everett after an interaction with members of the Everett Police Department and sent to a juvenile detention facility in Virginia, according to his mother and immigration lawyer Andrew Lattarulo.

The boy’s mother, Josiele Berto, was called to pick her son up from the Everett Police Department on Thursday, the day he was arrested. After waiting for about an hour and a half, she was told her son was taken by ICE, Berto told the Globe in a phone interview.

“My world collapsed,” Berto said in Portuguese.

From the police department, the boy was taken to ICE’s holding facility in Burlington on Thursday evening, where he spent a night before being transferred by car to the Northwestern Regional Juvenile Detention Center in Winchester, Va., on Friday morning, his mother said. The juvenile facility is more than 500 miles away from Everett.

The boy is a 7th-grader at Albert N. Parlin School in Everett, his mother said. The teen and his family, who are Brazilian nationals, have a pending asylum case and are authorized to work legally in the United States, Lattarulo said.
