Lots of lovely new followers here! Hello 👋 I’m Alex. I started posting fairly regularly after realising I’m Autistic in my mid thirties. I’m still processing it all 3 years on so writing it out helps me. I also post about my experiences with OCD, eating disorder recovery and Axial Spondyloarthritis.

At the moment I am absolutely loving Pret’s Festive Truffle Pasta. Warming and tasty. I might be the only one, but it’s currently one of my favourites. It’s just a shame about the price point, otherwise I’d happily have this everyday for lunch!

I know I sound like a broken record when it comes to our upstairs neighbours but I so wish housing had good soundproofing like some hotels. The whole time we were in Berlin I didn’t hear any noise from fellow guests but now it’s back to the usual noise from neighbours. How I wish that was different!

For me, icebreaker activities really heighten anxiety. Trying to think of an interesting fact about myself while wondering what others might find interesting, trying to remember what someone has told me to repeat back to the rest of the group…usually I just want to run away and hide.

I love the community here. I came on here this evening upset and anxious after my dentist appointment today and can go to bed feeling more comfortable about the whole thing, thanks to others talking about their experiences and helping reassure me. Thanks so much to you all ❤️

Autistic me has been baffled to discover how much of the world functions only because a large majority of people comply without needing to understand what they are doing or why.
I went to the dentist and ended up crying afterwards as I have to have a filling for the first time in my life because of abfraction and need to choose between 3 options to prevent teeth grinding, leaning towards a night guard to try tor now. It’s overwhelming and I’ve always dreaded treatment!

Recovering from an eating disorder is very hard but especially in a society where diet talk seems so prevalent. When you’re developing a healthier relationship with food and exercise but constantly reminded about how many calories are in specific foods and discussions about diets/exercise dominate..

It’s strange to me that noise teams will deal with complaints about certain noises like DIY, parties, using some household appliances late at night but things like running around and banging and crashing from children playing late at night, no it’s regular household noise. It’s late and disruptive 😢

I can’t emphasize enough how useful being autistic is for academic research. In particular, the ability to make connections & spot patterns across large quantities of data. I feel like this is what my brain was made to do. #Autistic

For some reason I’m finding the transition from summer to autumn very hard this year. I’m missing the sunny, warmer days, and dreading the overcast, cold days. Just need some nice autumn sun 🍂 but trying to think of the lovely things - warm, cosy clothes and lots of pretty lights!

Wow, 4 years since I realised I was Autistic. The time has flown by. Learning this really did have so much positive change for me, mostly how life-affirming it is. Things finally made sense. I learnt (am still learning) to embrace myself as I am. I think I’m still processing it all to be honest.

First hot water bottle of this season! 🍂 while I love summer and the sun, it’s so nice to put layers on and hug a hot water bottle. I find it very soothing.
